Logging water?

During winter months I tend not to drink as much water but I do drink other fluids, tea, diluted drinks etc, do other people who are similar log this type of intake in their diary as water. Also another ( stupid) question how many ml would count as a glass of water?

The only thing that I log as water is plain water. All other liquids (Milk, coffee, tea, vodka...) are logged in meals or snacks area as liquids with calories, etc...

Google told me that 8oz = 236.588 ml. If it is on the internet it has to be true and accurate!

    abot 240mL

and you should try and drink more water in the winter. it's easier to get dehydrated in the winter because, like you said, people drink less because it's not warm out. however, your body is working harder to heat the air coming into your lungs.

but you do get water from other sources, so as long as you feel fine.

Thank you both for the replies. I was thinking 500 ml which is difficult at this time of year. 8 x 240 sounds a lot better. I think I was looking for the easy way out by counting tea lol.

You can count tea if you like. The water doesn't stop being water just because tea and/or milk are added. I log those kinds of drinks as water, but obviously count the calories in them too.

That makes sense too, I will make more of an effort with the water too though as I'm a tea addict, lol

Any liquid you drink counts. Water, juice, tea, soda, coffee, beer (yes beer, there isn't enough alcohol in beer to counter the hydrating effects of all the water in it.) They all count. As for the "8 glasses a day of water" recommendation? Marketing by bottled water companies. There is no such actual recommendation. The closest that science has gotten to that was a recommendation of 2 liters of fluid per day, and that includes everything I listed, plus the water that's in most foods we eat.

In other words, don't worry about it. As long as you're not dehydrated (urine is pale, not dark) you're ok.

Well if that's the case then I get ample fluids each day, I drink quiet a few cups of tea (too many) and a few glasses of water with dilute orange and some plain water too. I will try and cup back on the tea and add more plain water as I probably drink too much tea.
Thanks for the replies, by the way would wine count in the same way as beer or am I chancing my arm?:-)

If you want to adequately monitor your water intake for whatever reason, the only way that can be reasonable 'useful' is to monitor everything - be it ham (some is actually up to 20% added water ontop of the water naturally in it here in the UK), coke or whatever.
Your body, as far as I know, doesn't really care how the water gets in to your body; whether it's mixed with something else when it enters your mouth or not.

    Why cut back on tea?
For weight loss at least, caffeine is good I believe.

Your body doesn't care if the water's mixed with other things or not - even food - with the possible exception of alcohol. The "8 glasses a day" rubric was originally more descriptive than prescriptive.

Really tea in ample amounts is ok? I drink a minimum of 6 mugs a day, it could be a lot more some days. I don't add sugar and use a little milk which I count. It would be great to think I could drink it freely as I love it especially during winter months. It takes two big mugs to kickstart me in the morning!!
