People Need to Read

I don't expect beginners to just know things, but you have to approach exercise and dieting like anything else, with a critical mind. Work on the assumption that you're not going to buy into anything, and go from there.
It's increasingly more surprising to me how many people have real weight concerns, and know next to nothing in spite of a lifetime of "dieting", compared to me who has never had a weight problem and been very successful with my diets.
Sincerely not tooting my own horn here, just making a comparison. I always thought heavier people knew more than me in general. Pick up a good, well regarded book not written by someone promising "results fast" or something extreme, and get to work.
