Any books you recommend??

Hi All

I am not 100% sure of what is the best foods to eat.. I try to eat healthy and I have set MFP to calculate 40% Carbs, 30% Fat and Protein!! But im struggling to get this right! Does anyone have any good books they can recommend for me to read to try and combat this? Possibly something that does have different recipes and foods to try?? Thanks for anything you can recommend.

There are so many books out there, and most of them adamantly disagree with each other  I think I've read pretty much all of them (at least 50 that I can think of off the top of my head oiy!) The one I always recommend, which isn't actually a dieting book per se, is Rethinking Thin, by Gina Kolata. It goes into the history of the dieting industry, as well as some of the studies that have been done about dieting, obesity, and long term weight loss success. A great read!

    I <3 this cook book.

"Forget starving yourself. Forget grapefruit diets,no-carb diets, and cabbage soup diets. A healthy body needs real food, and none of those fad diets work for very long anyway. Instead, what if you could stay trim without giving up the foods you love? What if you could lose weight and get in shape in your own kitchen while you eat delicious, real food?"

If you have a local library that's a great place to start. All the books I've read on dieting, nutrition and fitness I've gotten for free from the library :)

Meh, I read Why We Get Fat and then did some further research on it, and all said and done I disagree with most of his ideas. However, there's nothing wrong with reading a wide variety of books, of all kinds of thought, and then coming to your own conclusions :)

I read this book in the early 90s. It's provides a terrific education and guidelines on nutrition.

My best advice is to not make it so complicated. Find a cookbook you love, the library usually have all kinds. Make the foods you like, watch portion sizes.

My favourite cookbook is one meant for families and based on fresh produce and has a little bit of everything, everything from bread to fish to fancy recipes and deserts. But it is in Norwegian, so I'm not sure how much of a help it will be for you. But, I'll add a picture anyway.

If you want more details here is a list over nutrients you need and a start to where you can find them and how much you need.

You know, check out your health insurance. A lot of them cover seeing a nutrionist for free as "prevantive" medicine. That would probably help you a lot.

His ideas/books are quite controversial around here-if you type in his name in the search section, lots of threads should pop up with the back and forth about him :)

I'll check it out at some point - but I'm just putting it out there. The science behind it seems like it's possible. Although, I've had some others give me a resource that rebuttals him. All in educating myself, that's all.
