Hi everyone,

I've had some success with high protein low carb (lost 10kg) but once I started to introduce daily cardio I struggled BIG TIME to hit my 1880 net cals for the day and on some days netted only 800-1000 cals which is ridiculous. Following advice on here it seems I could reintroduce carbs to boost my daily cals and I've smashed ON 2.5kgs in 4 days!! Gah!! Would this just be water? Should I just push on for a while and see if it works? I'm REALLY tempted to get back imto the HPLC because it makes me feel less "jiggly" but I don't want to lose the cardio....

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

If you're eating at a deficit, you will lose weight. Carbs cause some water retention and help to maintain glycogen stores. Stick with it for a few weeks and see if you start to lose again. Carbs don't make you gain fat, excess calories make you gain fat.

so... add fat. You can eat a lot of fat calories without a large volume of food.

Carbs require more water in your system to process, so water weight gain is normal.

Thanks for replies, I'll keep going as I am then as I'm definitely in deficit. The 2.5kg gain just threw me a little. ...

Yes, essentially what happened is your glycogen stores are being replenished with the increase of carbs. For every gram of glycogen stored, you store anywhere from 3-4 grams of water with it, so the glycogen replenishing + water retention will show an increase on the scales.

Stay the course and you'll continue to lose weight, just give it some time.
