After I'd lost nearly 60lbs and happily maintained it for 4 months I still didn't really see the change, and was still wearing lots of baggy jumpers. I was in an outdoor clothes shop to get a gift for hubby and saw Weird Fish zip ups on sale. Now I had one of these in my large days - a mans XL that I thought covered lots of bulges and loved it. I tried a ladies 14 - too big! They only had a 12 in bright pink, now I would rarely wear bright colours, but I tried it on for the size. I couldn't believe how slim I looked in it! Couldn't stop looking in the mirror - and yes, I bought it!

I lost most of my weight over 2 years ago, with the last 10lbs a year ago, and I have never gone more than 4lbs above my target. Even now I still get moments when I forget how much my body has changed. Sometimes at the gym I catch my reflection in the mirror and think it must be one of those fairground ones because there's no way my legs are that skinny!

MIL bought me a zip up cardi for Christmas - in an 8 - and I still did a happy dance when it fit!

The clothes are fab, but what is the most amazing is being able to keep up with my 10year old, and 18 month old. I can carry the younger one around all day - something I couldn't do with her brother when he was that age. It doesn't make me a better parent necessarily but it makes the practical side easier.

Good luck - you can do it!

Motivation is fickle and comes and goes. Instead, make a commitment to yourself and just get it done. Just as you make commitments to go to work/school, brush your teeth, feed your kids, etc.
  • I can't quite get my head around the size that I fit into now. I've lost 52kg (114.5lbs) - I started out in an Aus/NZ size 24 - 26 (it's one size larger than the US sizes, so a Aus/NZ 14 is a US 12). In the last month I've managed to buy size 14 jeans, have size 14 dresses be too big for me, and also fit into a couple of size 12 skirts. When I got into the first pair of size 14 jeans, I'll admit that I did a happy dance right there in the changing room! To fit into clothes that I could only dream of when I started, it is a real sense of achievement, and I still have more weight to lose.

I've also had people comment that my clothes look too loose when I've been wearing size 14. And, to top it off, I've gone down clothing sizes when the scale hasn't moved at all. Clothes are awesome! I have found that each time I fit the next size down it's really motivating to me personally, because it's a physical sign of hard work paying off. I'm sure you can do it too!

I agree with making a commitment... but finding motivation wherever you can doesn't hurt either. Makes the journey a lot nicer :)

When i started this journey i was wearing XXL and size 22 jeans that were kinda tight. I had a bunch of jeans in size 18 that i really wanted to fit in again. Today I can wear a size 6 and most of my shirts are smalls, some mediums :) It feels awesome to be able to shop in any store for your size and an added benefit is that my size is often left on clearance racks!

lifting makes a difference!! by crochetmom2010, on Flickr

The scale, while important, should not define you. In all 3 of these pictures, I am within a 10lb range--189lbs to 199lbs. I am wearing the EXACT same shirt...but different size pants. On the left, I wear a size 16/18, in the middle a size 14, and on the right, a size 12.

I get all kinds of awesome comments. My first trainer says that my physical changes blow his mind. Another guy at the gym asks me every few months if I have been losing weight. I have had random other gym members approach me and tell me they have noticed I look slimmer.

I still have a LONG way to go--about 50 lbs to get to "normal" body weight, but I am a work in progress.

I don't have photos, BUT I do now fit into a small (sometimes a medium or extra small) now after my highest weight of being a L/XL. My trainer and I both needed to learn to shop so another trainer at the gym took us both to the mall. I distinctly remember her saying "you should both be a S/XS in here" and I was floored.

Since then, I've had so many co-workers tell me how badly they want to go shopping with my trainers. Hell, they've offered to pay.

Comfortably fitting back into the healthy size for my weight has felt so good. I'm so happy about it.
