fat burn zone?

Hi all,

Probably a dumb question but a calorie burned is a calorie gone right? Does it make a difference if my HRM says I spent 95% of my workout in the fitness zone and not the fat burning zone? I was a little emotionally stressed during tonight's workout and probably pushed harder than usual but didn't feel the difference..

    Yes, calorie burned is a calorie gone. At higher intensity more calories are burned, at less intensity less calories are burned. That's all that term means. So if you were not in "fat burn zone" that means you were not burning as much calories as you could have. Other than that there is no such thing as "fat burn zone". I personally think that term is moronic. If somebody tell you that you did not burned any calories cos you were not in "fat burn zone" send them back to fifth grade. About HRM, they still show how much cals you have burned, if they have option. Or at least shows you your HR so then you later can calculate yourself. Don't worry about other nonsense, they are just gimmicks.

    Ignore all zone guidance on HRMs or anyplace else. It's make believe and trying to stay in the mythical fat burn range will rob you if the opportunity to burn some real calories

    Fat burn zone is so 1980's!!!

    Heart rate zone training is valid for training towards different fitness goals but then it's a lot more complex than just "fat burn" or "fitness zone" both of which are really badly named anyway.

    For calories burned it's just the total number of calories you burn that is significant not the length of time or intensity you train at.

    Excellent! Thanks for the clarification. I'll try and argue with the wife before every workout, seems to burn more cals!! :bigsmile:
