Why I love to write (and you should too)
There’s something about a blank page staring back at you. There’s something about knowing that you can transpose your thoughts on to that page for eternity. When we keep thoughts locked up in our minds, we deprive ourselves of getting to know our true selves. Often times our thoughts are in conflict with each other. “I want that bowl of ice cream” but “I want to loose 15 lbs”. Yes I may want both things, but having one, may compromise having the other. When we have thoughts racing through our heads, we become merely a vessel of impressions. When we write things down, we take control and step out of ourselves, and can rationally analyze those thoughts. It’s a beautiful (and scary) thing to have a piece of you- there- staring back. Thoughts won’t go away merely because we don’t want to face them. Documenting feelings, desires, passions, conflicts, etc. helps to dissect the chaos that goes on in our minds. We are always taking in information. Our brain processes all this data and hoards it away without telling us where it’s been stored. Sometimes we have more resources than we allow ourselves to believe. If we only take the time delve into the crevices of our minds, we may recalled the missing key to some dilemma.
Having things all jumbled in the mind is like that cluttered purse. You stick your hand in, and juggle things around, always looking for the same items you can never seem to find. So what’s the solution? Just as in frustration, you end up dumping all the contents of that muddled purse, unload all your jumbled thoughts down on a page. You can start to separate things out and find what it was you were looking for. Sometimes, just like your cluttered purse, you get luck and find that unexpected $20 and think you’ve struck it rich, your mind will surprise you with all kinds of hidden wealth waiting to be discovered.
