I am only on day 2 of using this app. I have entered everything I am going to eat today (all my meals) + the hours walk I am going to do - and it says I need to eat another 900 odd calories. Do I have to or can I just eat less calories today?

Yes, you should eat them. 900 Cals is a pretty hefty extra deficit.
Here is a must read post about the exercise Cals:

would be good if you could open up your diary so we can take a peak??
is that mostly exercise cals - if it is then i would say eat at least half, otherwise you should eat a minimum of 1200 or your body will go into 'starvation mode' and theres a chance you could put weight on :ohwell: x0 -
I recommend that you eat back at least 1/2 of your exercise calories (go for protein and/or healthy vegetables); would help if we knew what a normal days food looks like to you. There are lots of threads already on MFP regarding this topic so you could search the message boards regarding eating exercise calories and glean a lot of good information.0
