How much water when exercising?

I know this may seem like a silly question, but I've never thought about it before. The 8 glasses of water recommended per day, is that with exercise, without exercise, or doesnt it matter?? And by exercise, that could mean walking or running a marathon, swimming or step.
I automatically drink more when I'm exercising to a sweat level. But if I just go for a walk, I dont think I drink more. Obviously you sweat more the more vigorous the exercise, so I'm assuming this to be the deciding factor?
Just thought I'd throw it open as its always good to hear/read other opinions. Thanks

8 glasses is without exercise, when you exercise you need to drink more obvious to recover fluids lost when sweating..0
