What is your plan for New Year's?

I am visiting family to celebrate New Year's and staying two days. I won't have much control over food choices most of the time and I know pretty much only unhealthy food will be available. I am just starting out again and this is where I usually mess up my diet. I go off diet for a few days and then never get back. Any pointers for how to deal with these situations? I can't really bring my own food without offending my hostess.

Portions. If there's veggies, load up on those. You could explain to the hostess that you are following a meal plan. If they don't like it, tough! You're the one doing good for your body. And if you mess up, start fresh when you get back, have it set in stone and check back here and get a good day / workout in. Holidays don't have to be a reason to pig out. You can have fun without over doing it calorie wise.

I am going to hope it eat in moderation (I don't really like hotdogs and sauerkraut which is what the majority of the food is going to be, so it shouldn't be hard), its going to be the alcohol that is going to be the calorie killer for me and I have a feeling I am going to drink pretty heavy. you just have to get yourself to jump back on the diet as soon as you can.

Make the best choices you can with what is there.
Pace yourself on the drinking by having a "spacer" drink in between each alcoholic drink, something like club soda and lime or water and lime.
Avoid the cheeses if you can and nibble on the veggies (go easy on the white dip, though).
Here is a lower calorie alternate for New Year's Day

This is a black eyed pea, collared green and ham soup that we make every year. it is good and hearty and very filling.

You really need to make a promise to yourself. If you splurge for those two days, then you need to jump start back into your healthy eating routine. We all lose track from time to time, but don't look at as a failure!! We can all have a junk food day. Perhaps bring some healthy breakfast/snack items to throw into the mix, like a veggie tray and a fruit tray! Everyone loves a sweet bowl of variety fruits. This way its more of a hostess gift and not offensive. And try to drink water more than anything else. Just remember when summer time comes around, you want to look better than the year before!! Good luck and happy new year!

Just plan it: that is plan ahead of time that that one dinner will be your indulgence dinner .... and enjoy it, knowing you have decided to indulge this dinner. Also, plan that the very next day, January 2, you will log your food and exercise on this site.

Maybe bring your hostess a big beautiful fruit bowl...then choose and enjoy a healthy, delicious honey crisp apple or fragrant cutie when the group starts to snack?

I go off diet for a few days and then never get back.

When this happens, log on and see that your calories are reset. Each day is a new day!! No more dieting. Make little changes, baby steps, that you can deal with for ever. Dieting works temporarily and only lowers your metabolism when you're done (which is what causes us all to gain it back and more). Make LIFESTYLE CHANGES. Good luck!! :flowerforyou:
