I am 2 weeks into my diet and I am on a calorie intake of 1390 per day. After looking back thru my logs I am noticing that I am not eating all the calories I am allowed. Is that bad? Should I make sure I get to the 1390 or is it ok to be low. Some days I only got close to 900 calories. can someone shed some light on this for me?? Thank You :-)

You should not go below 1200 calories on any day, it is hard to get the required nutrition on any less than 1200 cals. If you are under and need to add more try a handful of nuts, or drink a higher fat % milk (switching from 1% to 2%), nut butters, avocado will all help you reach your caloric goal with healthy calories.

you should eat as close to those cals as possible. and if you exercise, eat some or most of those as well. ideally, you should not eat below 1200 on any day. try to eat 5-6 times a day to get all your cals in..

Hi jenny; nothing is set in stone and everyone is differant. How much have u lost in the 2 weeks?? Some people will insist u eat all yr exercise calories, some will say not to eat them, some will tell you to eat at least 1200 calories etc..

You have to figure out what works for you. How active are you? How do u feel now? Are your calories coming from good healthy choices or junk food?? etc etc

For me, I NEVER eat my exercise calories, but I feel for me, I have alot of fat to burn off..but thats my choice!! I stay under 1200 calories every day for the last 5 months. I feel fine, and I have consistantly lost 1-2 lbs a week, but that is me.

Do your research on here, see how you are feeling, get some form of exercise in every day even if it just a walk around the block and build up from there.

Good luck to you and your weight loss :)

I have lost 6 lbs so far. I feel great and I have been eating all the 'good foods' I printed a copy of the food groups and put it in my kitchen. So far I seem to be getting all the required food groups but it doesn't reach the 1390 and then on days i walk, that gives me even more calories to eat. I just find it kinda funny that am this way from eating to much now I am wondering if I am eating enough. :-) I was just reading some articles that said it can actually slow down your metablolism and have the opposite effect of what you are going for.
  • To determine what is correct for you this is what you do:

1.Call you doctor and schedule a physical before beginning any weightloss program of any kind in any way.

    2. Discuss your goals with your doctor and ask for a referral to a registered dietician.

    3. Set up appointment with dietician.

    4. Take your lab results and doctor recommendations to the dietician and share your goals and challenges with the dietician.

    5. Follow the professional advise given to you based on your medical history and the people you have entrusted with your health. Not random strangers on a forum. You have no way of knowing just how credible they really are.

This is an awesome site, great people, fun times. But when it comes to your health, see a professional. This site works, but there are alot of opinions flying around. We have no way of really knowing if those opinions are credible. Also, people mean well, but are biased. We do not know your history, we are not professionals. (Well, we may be but you have no way of knowing how educated we are and like I said, we don't know your history.) When I went to the doctor and had tests done, it was determined that it was safe for me to eat 1000 calories. That gives some people on here a mini-heart attack. But I trust the care of my medical team over anybody on this website. There are several peole on here who are, in fact, credible. But even they will tell you to see a doctor first.
