Why Do You Want to be Thinner/Healthier?

Besides obvious benefits of health, what motivates you? What is waiting at the end of your journey?

For me, I'd like to be able to ride horses without the guilt of breaking their backs. I'd like to buy for style once in a while. And, a big middle finger for all the people who made negative or nasty comments on my weight.

Mostly to lessen the pressure on my joints (HMS, being overweight is literally a killer for me)

    For the rest? Vanity.
I am a cosplayer and want to wear them skintight spandex bodysuits without worrying about how that will look in pictures.
    So there.

    Happy new year :3

Unless my butt goes away or my boobs, then I will go right back to gaining weight.

    Too look better and yourger

Fell good about myself and feel beautiful in the clothes I want to wear (the second part beeing king of hard... even if I were at a perfect weight, it's not like any clothes will be flattering for my body part... but at least have more clothes I love fit good)

Be able to do more challenging things, sports and so on, without getting tired quickly

Be a good role model for my little sister

And off course... there is a little vanity in me wanting to show off to some people... that disconsidered me as a person just for being overweight

I want to have improved overall health...better glucose control...prevent long term complications of diabetes.

I feel better in my clothes when I'm thinner.

I have a newly "adopted" niece, and she is super girly! I was never the girly girl growing up, and I'm still not. But I would love nothing more than the go shopping with her, and to go get our nails done and be the super aunt when she gets older. I still have a little since since she is only almost 6, but I don't want to have to wear boring clothes, I want to wear the super cute things. I also have a newborn nephew and he is destined to be a sports player, and I want to be able to challenge him a little bit and go to his games and yet again be the super awesome aunt who can take them to the amusement parks and ride all kinds of rides, and pretty much be able to do whatever they wanted to do. That's my main motivation right now. It's hard to get on the floor and play dolls and house with my niece, I do it because I want to, but I need it to be easier. So here we go! Anyone is welcome to add me!

Funny, "healthier" used to mean just stronger/faster. Now it means not being pre-diabetic and getting rid of 2 conditions that resolve (~80% of the time) at normal bodyfat.

I want to RUN - which my knees don't allow if I'm over 200 lbs. And to hike with a 55 lb pack without being slow and mumbling to myself that it's really the equivalent of 125 lbs, given how overweight I am. And to lift heavy in thorough workouts, not piecemeal lifts that my IIH/PTC limits me to.

Life is too short for me to be getting in my own way.

I feel like it is what I am supposed to do and gets approval from people around me.

Health is the main REAL reason.

I honestly feel like my own petty reasons have all been met...fitting into booths, seats, roller coasters, etc. That was really the only big thing that bugged me about being larger than I currently am.

    Vanity....definitely
    Health also
but I want to wear clothes I like rather than clothes that hide my belly and are not sizes for "big girls". I want to be able to be proud of myself for working so hard to lose weight. I want a life where I choose to eat wisely - healthier, and exercise more because I LIKE it not because I feel I should!

I want to look hot in a bikini. I'm unfortunately not curvy (tiny boobs, flat *kitten*) but I DO have wide hips, so I would like to emphasize that, and get some abs and lean muscle. Just being real.

Also, though, my boyfriend's grandmother is a HUGE inspiration for me. She is healthy 100% of the time with her food but makes DELICIOUS things, and she rides her bike every day and is a yoga instructor, and she's over 70. I want to be her when I'm older.

-To have it as socially acceptable as possible for me to wear the least amount of clothing possible.
-To be awesomer at all the physical activities i partake in.
  • I have many reasons why I want to be thinner/healthy. But the number one reason is so I can I show my children the benefits of being healthier. I want them to have a better relationship with food then I ever did. They are my inspiration for everything!

    Health is my main reason:
    1. I'm two years younger than my mother had been when she died from diabetes and heart disease.
    2. Weight loss has reduced my own blood glucose and cholesterol levels significantly.
    3. I've been a caregiver for over a decade and need the added stamina.
    4. I simply feel much better, both physically and psychologically.

    Other reasons:
    1. I fit into my old clothes again.
    2. I'm running again.
    3. I don't balk over being weighed at my physical.
    4. Finding better stress responses to replace stress-eating gives me more peace of mind.

I want to be fitter so I can run faster, and farther.
I want to be able to stand in a bikini next to all the tiny 5 foot 3 girls and feel confident with my 5 foot 7 frame.
I want to be able to look in my closet and choose the really cute, girlie outfits instead of the baggy hoodies I hide in.
    I want to be confident!

    [/quote]

I love that quote because it is absolutely TRUE! I decided it was time for me to be my best self. The only person who could make that happen was me and I needed to get out of my own way! Added benefits: a new wardrobe, feeling GREAT about how I look and feel, standing tall and walking with more purpose. I'll be 50 in two years and I'll be in the best shape of my life - and I sure won't LOOK 50. I haven't been this size since I was 28 years old and I'm not even done yet. Life is good...

Besides obvious benefits of health, what motivates you? What is waiting at the end of your journey?

There is no end...there is no finish line. Health, nutrition, and fitness are life long endeavors.

Health is my primary and most powerful motivator...my dad died just a few weeks ago of a massive heart attack at age 61. He also was a type II diabetic with out of control hypertension and stage 3 kidney disease. The warning signs for him started showing up in his late 30s...right where I'm at right now. He never made any changes...the guy refused to eat a vegetable, never exercised, ate excessively and a lot of junk food, etc...

I'm about 18 months into completely changing my life around. 18 months ago I was a 2-3 PAD smoker who was borderline obese with high blood glucose, uncontrolled hypertension, cholesterol and triglycerides through the roof, and mostly sedentary save for walking the dog around the block a couple times per week (all of 10-15 minutes).

Now I am no longer a smoker...haven't had a single drag since Sept 25, 2012, my hypertension is well controlled with medication, my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers keep falling and are now in the normal range and my blood glucose is normal. Now, instead of being sedentary I kill it in the weight room 3x weekly and average about 60 miles per week on my bike (more if I'm actually training for a ride).

Because of this, I am confident that I will not go the way of my father and I will be around to watch my almost 4 y.o. and my 18 m.o. boys grow to be men and have families of their own.

Really...that is all that motivates me.

    To kickstart my life.

I have huge social phobia issues (always have) and it's easier to deal with being awkward when I don't feel like a lumbering awkward beast.

Hitting a proper weight and then actually maintaining it is part of my overall nutrition plan to defeat my seasonal allergies so this year they won't defeat me.
