Hip Pain that turns into numbness

I am experiencing a lot of hip discomfort when I work out. I have been doing the 30 Day Shred for about 2 1/12 weeks, and the pain just keeps getting worse, and my flexibility is getting worse too. It only hurts on my right side. When I try to do mountain climbers it gets to the point where I can barely move my legs at all. Then after the workout, my entire leg goes numb and tingly...down to my toes.
I started noticing the pain after I completed C25K last year. I ran a few 5ks, but ultimately, the pain made me stop. Then, this summer, I noticed severe hip and knee pain while hiking. It is really embarrassing because i have to stop and turn back after only about 20-30 minutes.

I plan on talking to my doctor about this within the next month, but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar symptoms. What did you do to help alleviate the pain? It is to the point where I have trouble falling asleep at night due to the throbbing in my hip and leg.

Any advice will be very appreciated. Thanks.

    Google sciatica.
  • Thank you. I didn't know if there was a name for it. I appreciate that.

Nice--I've been looking for that link to show others. That stretch solved my problem that had bedeviled me for almost a year. I have helped several clients using it as well.
  • Less than a week later, and my hip pain is gone!!! That video just saved me from over a year of constant pain!
  • Glad it's gone!! I wanted to add my 2 cents worth- I was having similar problems, it would come and go. Stretching helped some. Chiropractor helped some. I went to my doctor, though, and she referred me to an orthopedic dr. After X-rays and an MRI, he concluded that I have osteoarthritis in my lower back, which only causes mild back pain but horrid pain in my hip and down my leg. May or may not be your issue, but I wanted to mention it. Mine, too, got worse with the shred and running. It also hurts if I wear heels or wedges often.

piriformis pain is the worse, i actually prefer to dull stiffness in the back to what feels like being repeatedly rabbit-punched in one spot on my butt cheek

    stretches help as do massages.
