Hello! I want to give IF a try for 3 weeks to see if it's a good plan for me. Does anyone want to try it as well? I plan to do 20:4, but you can do whatever you want. I have heard so many good things about this program that I want to try it out and see if it works for me.
Happy New Year!!

Sorry. I get too hangry.0

The only real benefit I found I liked about IF was my teeth got whiter. I suppose it let me go out to chain restaurants more, but that's really not a positive nor negative for me.0

No thanks.0

I do so much better eating smaller, more frequent meals. But good luck with it! Plenty of people on here do it, that's for sure.0

I tried this a few weeks ago and I didn't really care for it. I do much better eating smaller, more frequent meals. IF is pretty much the opposite of this, and I should have stuck the "if it's not broke don't fix it" mantra.
I just wanted to experiment a little bit, so I guess it was worth it to learn what works and what doesn't work for me.0 -
You'll find a lot of IFers here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/66-intermittent-fasting0

I've done several versions of IF (JUDDD, 5:2 and 18:6), and I enjoyed all of them. Give it a try and see how it goes0

I wish you luck but it is not something that would work for me.0 -
I've been doing it for about 6 months now, and it works very well with my lifestyle and preference in eating. Give it a try and see if it works for you.0

IF is a perfectly valid way of managing calorie restriction. I would however suggest a slightly longer eating window (leangains suggests 16:8 and a slightly longer one for women I believe at 14:10).0

I hope you do give it a try! I have always been a natural IFer - I've never been a breakfast person, and I'm happiest with nothing but black coffee until noon or 2 (I don't have strict eating/fasting windows, just eat when I get hungry, but it usually works out to a 14:10 kind of thing).
I tried to force myself to eat breakfast a while ago, back when I still believed the "breakfast kickstarts your metabolism" hooey, and it sucked. I was hungry all the time, and I never had enough calories left for the end of the day, without going over.
Now I eat a small lunch or a snack at work, and then eat the bulk of my calories after I get home from work. I find this greatly improves my adherence and mood, and I never lack for dinner or bedtime snack calories.0 -
Not for me but good luck.0

It's funny this came up now. I am starting the 5:2 today. I don't completely fast. On the 2 days, I eat 500-700 calories.
Tried it awhile back and liked it so want to do again. How do you want to do it? Are you creating a group or something?0 -
you should probably give it six weeks to see how your body adapts to it..
just remember that IF is just a tool that you use to create a calorie deficit.it really does not have any additional benefit..
I did IF 18/6 for about six months and enjoyed it but found it hard to fit into my lifestyle..so now I just eat three to four times a day...0 -
Sorry. I get too hangry.
how would you get hungry with a four hour eating window?0 -
Not anti IF at all.
Im considering it still - trying to transition towards it again (tried a few months ago) - probably to the dismay of the guy im seeing lol
But why 20:4? Seems a bit intense for your first go at it...0 -
I too am one of those that does the IF thing naturally. Don't do breakfast. Without trying usually do my lunch about 14-16 hours after dinner the last night. then dinner about 8 hours latter. Does that count?0

I started on Monday doing 18:6 and it seems to be going well so far. The last couple of hours are a little rough, but I think that may go away once my body adjusts. If not I might try doing 16:8 instead. The reason I decided to do this was because I noticed that I didn't seem to get cravings for food throughout most of the day, but in the afternoon I wouldn't be able to think of anything except food, even though I had already eaten most of my calories for the day. It has been helping me stay within my goals. I plan on trying JUDD at some point also.0

I did try it for a while last summer but found that my blood sugar would get too low and I'd get mentally foggy. And when I would then eat, it was too hard to control myself. It's best for me to eat small meals all day (I'm not diabetic, BTW).0

When I've had a super big lunch one day, I've been known to not eat anything until a late breakfast the next morning, which is about sixteen hours, and I didn't get hungry. I have low blood sugar at times, but it has never bothered me if I have such a huge meal and then not eat anything else for a long while.0

I have always been an unintentional IFer (like many have said-- I detest breakfast and can only generally stomach some coffee and water until the afternoon). Ever since I heard of the program I figured, let me adjust my eating into a more structured plan like this and see where it goes. I've been losing weight not any more so than I have trying to eat "regularly" but I find that one big meal a day for me with some snacks in between is much more enjoyable than trying to get in 3-5 square meals a day. And I like I can eat whatever I want--though I do watch saturated fat and carbs anyway.
Good luck on your journey!! If you're someone like me- it may definitely work for you!0 -

I suggest you join one of the IF groups. I've done it off and on, but am not ready to make a commitment right now. BTW, the author of the plan I followed last year, "Fast 5", a daily plan, said it took a minimum of 21 days for the body to adapt.
If you find a plan that works for you, IF can be a very effective and fairly painless form of weight loss.
Good luck.0
