Need advice with Sportline Solo 925

Options
I got mine for Xmas, set it up and went for a walk using Mapmyrun at same time.
It was about 60 calories lower after an hour, which isn't far off.

I read the reviews on Amazon, and they say that it ignores your bps and estimates calories burned based on steps only.
5000 steps at 2mph would register the same burn as 5000 steps run at 10mph.

This doesn't sound right?
Can anyone help?

Just a quick look at their website shows that this HRM does not have a chest strap. Thus it is pretty much useless for calorie estimations. To do a reasonably accurate job estimating calories burned based on HR, a chest strap or some other way of constantly monitoring your HR is necessary. HR on demand by touching the HRM will not do. If possible return it and get one with a chest strap.

It has a sensor on the back of the watch I think as it tells me my hr during walks without having to touch it.
Touching it will tell me my current hr and if I'm "in the zone"
But I don't know if it estimates the cals burned
