Women BMI of 19

I'm 5'4'' and I finally met my goal of 114.5 lbs by christmas. I adjusted my goal to 110 which translates to BMI of 19. I know that BMI can be crapshoot when it comes to goals since it doesn't take into account muscle and frame size. I'm a runner and I really like to decrease my weight as it somewhat improves speed without sacrificing running muscle strength. I'm aiming to run a full marathon this year or the following year. I always wanted to be BMI of 19 as that what I think is ideal for ME. Anyone else have a goal similar to mine or has a BMI of 19? Any runners out there who had speed gains with decreased weight?

Average BMI of top athletes vary widely by sport. That being said I ran my first marathon this year and based my goal weight in part on such data. While body fat percentage may be a better metric, it is harder to track down such information for top athletes. BMI is much easier to obtain as we can calculate it knowing only their height and weight.

It appears that most people get faster as they lose weight but only if they have weight to lose. Losing too much weight increases risk of injury and only hampers performance.0 -
Yes my speed increased dramatically as I lost weight. But then I did lose over 100 lbs and was able to breath normally again. I am not sure a few pounds here or there make much difference.0

My bmi is 19.2 right now. I'm not a runner though. I didn't aim for this bmi, it just coincides with where my maintenance range is0

I wanted 19 BMI and may even get there when I get back to training ( had surgery 2 weeks ago).. but I will say Im kinda OK with how my body looks now and think 19 maynot look so good on my middle-aged body0
