Learning a language

What are some good but affordable language programs I can buy? One of my resolutions is to learn another language (or more than one!), but there are so many programs listed on Amazon that I have no idea where to start.
I'm getting back to working on Russian right now, and would like to start French since I enjoyed learning it in college.
Thanks in advance. Hopefully I get a response or two so I don't feel like an even bigger nerd than I already do.

Good luck!!! I would imagine it may be easier to learn if one has interaction with someone who is fluent in the other language and only talk in that language. I used to do that with the hearing people who wanted to sign. (I am deaf / ASL user)0

In bed. If that is not an option there are many free apps out there that help you get started. Once you get the basics try listening to YouTube videos they will help you get the sounds better than a program that keeps repeating the word the same way. Travel there if even in your mind by going to local community organized groups that do conversation sessions, or join a Skype based group online to get live conversations. There are many ways of you are willing and a lot of them are free.0

Try duolingo or livemocha. Duolingo is great for basic vocabulary practices and getting familiar with the structuring of sentences. Livemocha allows you to practice with native speakers.
As far as becoming fluent with only the use of these two sites, i doubt that is possible. However, both are free and helpful.
Good luck!0 -

Yes, another great technique for learning foreign language is just letting them "love on you". It is a lot less tedious than the repetitions of basic words and verbal tasks.0

See, i like the reggaeton "say my name". It is very difficult to get sucio to the stylings of mariachi.0

Check with your local libary. Our offers access to the Rosetta Stone program.0

You might want to check out your local library for language audio-programs. I was totally shocked by how many my library carried. I checked out a couple for my language of interest and it worked out really well for me - and of course is totally free.0
