Would having an extra 200 hundred calories gain weight over night if it didn't turn repetitive and only happened once in a blue moon like never.
Like how easy is weight gain?
Because I'm scared if i go like 50 calories over my maintenance goal once i will suddenly gain weight over night

Think of it this way- if you ate 200 or 50 calories short just once or twice, would you have weight loss?
(The answer is no. on both accounts)
One pound is 3,500 calories.
And there is more to your weight than fat. Water, salt, you name it, it affects the number on the scale.
Focus on how you feel, how your clothes feel, and be happy0 -
lol. no. you will not gain weight overnight if you're 200 calories over for one day every once in a great while.0
-
I've done this before and in my experience going over once will not make your gain weight. 200 calories over is no big deal. Maybe tack on 20 extra minutes of exercising.0

3500 calories = 1 pound of fat.
so 200 calories over your maintenance would be a gain of 0.06 lb.
You'll be fine1 -
No it will not. To gain a pound you have to eat 3500 extra calories (That is 3500 OVER the amount of your maintenance calories AND anything you burned with exercise). If anything those extra calories may make you bloat depending on what you ate (sugar? Bad carbs? Etc.?) and that extra pound is just water weight that will go away if you drink more water to flush it out. Don't fret over 50. Don't even fret over 200.0

3,500 calories make up one pound of fat
Which means you need to eat 3,500 calories OVER you maintenance
Which means, assuming you have a 500 calories deficit, you need to eat 4,000 calories over (4,500, if at a 1,000 deficit)
Which is around 5,000 calories in total
Which is kinda hard to do in the first place
And even if you do do it, it's just /one pound./
So, no. 200 over your goal calories will not mess you up. You still have 300 calories of deficit, plus 3,500 calories more than that. Don't sweat it0 -
Relax. Unless the 200 calories was all SALT and you had water retention weight gain. LOL
If this was an every day event, then over time you would weigh more.0 -
Assuming your measurements for your food consumption is accurate, 200 calories will make no difference. If you are seeking to gain weight, the purpose of this particular area, doing so consistently will eventually result in weight gain, but once in a blue moon won't. If your goal is to lose weight, unless your weekly goal is less that .5 pounds per week, 200 calories has not even gotten rid of the calorie deficit yet, just reduced it so you would be losing at a slower rate.0

thank you so much that really makes sense and it has helped me a lot xThink of it this way- if you ate 200 or 50 calories short just once or twice, would you have weight loss?

thank you all for the help it has really put my mind as ease i0

You already got a load of good posts with really accurate info. I just wanna add that you can't lose sleep over this! Just move on to the next day and it will be all good. The last thing you want to do is stress yourself out.0

200 over your current eating level, which probably has a deficit already of 500 or more daily?
Of course not, you'd just lose less on those days.
200 over your true maintenance level, which you would be hard pressed to nail for any single one day?
Not infrequently.
But there is an issue with suppressed metabolism potential, and if you don't really have the deficit you think you have, like not losing weight, then that extra eaten may also be extra surplus.
But infrequently - no problem.
As mentioned, the math shows how much surplus you'd need to be concerned with fat weight. Other weight, who cares, as long as it's not losing muscle mass.0 -
Like everyone else said the fat gain would be so small it isn't worth worring about. in any case your TDEE fluctuates from day to day, on a busy day you burn more and on a lazy day you will burn less. therte is no point in worring about the small stuff, so long as you are meeting your taget calories on averge each day you will be fine.0
-
Well, if you eat 200 calories more than maintenance and don't use them, the body will store them. That's the math.
However it's such a small amount there is no way you can notice this, what with weight fluctuation and whatnot. If you are eating at deficit then this only makes your deficit smaller by 200.
Also the data we feed here is not accurate, so those 200 calories over might be 50 calories under or 400 over, you never really know cause anything that is packaged is allowed 20% calorie wiggle room. So unless you eat everything raw and make your own meals from fresh produce, there is a margin of inaccuracy.
There is no reason to obsess about 200 calories. I ate 3500 over in the christmas week and gained 6 pounds (which tells me it was water weight). guess what, I am back to my pre-christmas weight today.0 -
Ah, the magic 200 calories again.....0

No. :noway:
Well, no weight that couldn't be dropped with a visit to the loo.0 -
20,000 calories is a lot of food.0

IF 200 calories turned directly into fat, with 100% efficiency, you would gain a little less than an ounce of fat.0
-
Nope! Unless you're making that 200 calorie mistake every day, you should be fine!
I have, however, experienced water retention issues with only a few hundred calories. I'll eat some chips and salsa (my weakness), and find that I've gained a pound overnight! I just drink a TON of water, and it disappears in a day or two.0 -
No relax !0

No...roughly 3500 calories over your maintenance level of calories would be required to gain 1 Lb of actual fat...and even then, your body's natural desire is to maintain and would have no issue dealing with the excess on occasion. To lose or gain weight requires consistently eating at a deficit or surplus to override your body's ability to balance energy.
Also, are you dieting? If you are then MFP's calorie goal is a huge deficit from maintenance and 200 add'l calories wouldn't be much of anything.0
