Get paid for logging!!! Really!

Options
Having been an avid gympact user for the last year, it was really cool to see they have changed to Pact, and now offer MFP integration.

How it works is you commit to logging food x days per week and pay $x per missed day. When you don't meet your goal by the end of the week, you are charged $*days missed. However if you meet your goal, you get a portion of all the missed $ collected for each day of your pact. While the daily amounts are small, around .40-.50, a 5 day commitment that you make will get you around $2.

i have over $100 in my pact account over the last year from committing to the gym, and i have only missed one pact day once costing me $5, so ive made around $95. You can withdraw any time over i think $10 to your paypal account, however i like to see mine just keep adding up.

now with MFP integration, i plan on making double that this year by logging exercise and diet. also, for those of you that dont belong to a gym, that half of the pact can be met by using apps such as runkeeper or getting over 10,000 daily fitbit steps. and its all done automatically!

I highly recommend giving it a try, its a truly great motivation! and cheers to MFP for getting involved with the app!

I've used this too. I agree, it's definitely a motivation (more so in the "oh crap, don't charge my credit card!" than in earning money). Like OP said, each week's earnings are small, but they add up. I think I've withdrawn ~$70 or so which is nice because it pays you for what you are doing anyway :)

Do you have to do this on a phone app or can you do it on a computer? Interesting!

The reviews on the app are sketchy... seems like there have been a lot of bugs. I'm a bit nervous to sign up in case I end up with one of these "cannot terminate account" bugs that keeps charging for logs that won't go through, you know?

But I am interested and am watching this thread for updates/comments. This app could be a miracle worker/payer if the issues have been acknowledged and fixed.

i've never had a problem, and the customer service is really good about helping with any errors.

id say try it with a 2 day commitment at first to see how it works, that what i did, now i am up to 6 days just in case something in life comes up unexpectedly. im hoping to get to 7 day commitment soon though!

In order for a gym workout to count, you need to "check in" with GPS on your smartphone. It locates a list of gyms in your immediate area, you choose your gym, and workout for at least 30 minutes. If you check out or leave the area before 30 minutes is up, your gym workout doesn't count.

Other options are activity counters (like FitBit) and you need 10,000 steps. It's hard to lie about that. Same for Runkeeper or other tracking apps...it measures your GPS activity and it's hard to fake.

Of course, people could sit in the gym's locker room for 30 minutes or sit there shaking their FitBit to reach 10,000 steps...but I just tend to assume that most people are honest.

Just yesterday they added two new types of pacts - "food pact" and "veggie pact". Food pact is linked to MFP and of course, people can lie about what they've eaten but I'm just going with the assumption that people are honest. For the veggie pact, you need to photograph your fruit/veggie serving and it's peer reviewed by the community (on the app) to see if it counts.

Yes, people can cheat the system...but I'd (perhaps naively) like to think most people don't. In any case, it hasn't hurt/lowered my rewards balance so I'm fine with the app until proven otherwise.

I know the reviews were sketchy, I was hesitant at first...but I've had no major problems. Anytime I've had a workout "not count" and feared being charged, I e-mailed them (straight from the app) and they responded within 24 hours, fixing the issue.

Hmmm... sounds interesting. And who couldn't use a little more $$, right?
I'll check it out and watch this thread for more comments.

So anyone that doesn't have/use a smartphone (I can't, due to work restrictions) is SOL? And by "fixing the issue," does that mean you get credit for the workout? Because that seems like it would be kind of a hassle for certain days. Deload weeks and this past week, where I went to the gym and set some new 1RMs - take/took 30 minutes or less. And what if you work out at home? Does that not count? Because I sometimes do my cardio and OHP and bench deloads at home.

im fairly certain you need a paypal, but not 100%...and yes i feel safer than having something directly linked to my bank account regardless

Yeah you need a smartphone for it. as for deloading weeks, just set the next week as a break or reduce the days...or go for a 30min walk using runkeeper...my dog has been a big help in meeting my pact at times lol!

widebride...I just downloaded it and there is a motion sensor option. OR you can download runtastic, move, jawbone up or mapmyfitness. They all sync with Pact.

Yeah, unfortunately if you can't use a smartphone then I don't think you can do this. Primarily, it's an app and I'd like to see computer-based logging in the future but I don't know if that will happen.

As for "fixing the issue", yes, I got credit for the workout. It took less than 60 seconds to submit my issue report.

As for workout out for less than 30 minutes...well, I have nothing for you there. That's their minimum, even if we all know you can still get in a good workout for less time.
So I guess I won't get credit for working out at home?
I forgot to mention this earlier. There is a "work out anywhere" option, which senses motion from your phone. If you work out at home, you can strap your phone to an arm-band and it will read your movements.

Another thing is you can change your pact for each week, so if you know you have a busy week ahead you can change your pact to 1-2 days for the coming week. You can also schedule breaks (either open-ended or for specific dates) but you have to choose both of these by Sunday night (as weeks start on Monday).

When it was just Gympact, they used the GPS on your phone to log where you were and they had to verify there was a gym there. If you used an app like Runkeep instead your pace had to be 3 mi/hour and it tracked with GPS.

I got responses from customer service but ultimately I never ever got paid the money I earned and once it became about wanting my money and to stop my account because of all the glitches, I never heard from customer service again.

That sucks you had so much trouble with them! I just had to quote you to highlight one thing though -- perhaps Runkeeper's pace was previously 3 mph, but now it's an average pace of 2 mph for at least 30 minutes.

You can also use EveryMove :) I have it on my iPhone, but there is a web version, too :p you get points for your workouts, which are integrated from MFP, and need so many points to get to a reward of your choosing (usually coupon style things, like $10 off a purchase at so-and-so). If you don't like any of the rewards, you can exercise for charity instead ^^
They have a Fit Pursuit 2014 challenge everyone will want to check out! Give yourself a goal (mine is to exercise at least 100min per week), complete it at least 3 of the 4 weeks, and be entered to win a prize (I'm entered to win an Xbox one!). Exceed your goal, like for me would be 150min+, to get additional entries. Fun stuff!!!!!

I'm scared to have to pay using pact...there always seems to be that one day of the week I mean to go to the gym and it never happens...but I am definitely still going to look into it :D love things like these!!!!!!
