Okay-here I go....my 10 week training starts on Monday for my 1st marathon in November! I am determined, even though the days are getting shorter and getting out earlier is going to get harder-I am afraid of the wild animals!:ohwell:

I know I can do this-anyone else going for this around November?

Good luck from up here in Holderness (Plymouth) NH!! My 2 cousins and a friend are doing the 5K in Manchester 'Footrace for the Fallen'. We are going to be all done with Couch to 5K by then and it is our Maiden Voyage, if you will!

I will be rooting for you! You can do it and you obviously are progressing with each race you do! :drinker:

Congratulations on deciding to do the marathon. It is fantastic...
I am doing couple of them between now and November.

Just a quick question: What is the longest distance you have run ever? how often do you run?

you have my full support :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Sure you can do it. I am training for one too but a much longer program. It is work but awesome work. I am so excited and looking forward to my challenge. You can do it if you put your mind to it. Good luck.
  • ODONNA-very cool-I think I am doing the race for the fallen also-I am trying to talk my 14 yr old sd to do it w/ me....it's for a good purpose! How do you like the c25k program?

Douina-a couple between now and then!?!?!?!!? How long have you been running? The longest I have gone is my half marathon. I then went on to doing Insanity-that took over my running, but it has really helped my endurance for my longer runs. I am going full force into a 10 week program off of Runners World starting Monday-the first week is a long run of 8 miles.....the longest it gives me to do is 2 weeks prior, I run 18 miles.

Kelsully-how long is your training program? When/where is your marathon?

you'll do great..If you find the program to be too intense, which sometimes it is when it is this condensed, then don't worry about backing off.. The most important part is that you arrive at the start line of your race healthy and ready to go with no injury..
I have been running for a while now. I have done 20 marathons, 2 full iron-man and i am training for an ultra-marathon. So i need to loose my "baby" weight to get back to my racing shape. I had gained 30 pounds;(
Know that we are here to support you through it :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

I am doing Chicago on 10-10-10...my program is an 18 week program. I had been running and training for 10 K but not a marathon. I am having a good time training for this.
  • Douniap.....that is amazing-really. You will lose that 30 in no time as long as you don't eat the junk I did after having mine!

kelsully.....very cool! a 10 k sounds fantastic! Is it through the city?

I did a 5 mile tempo run today--my 3 miles were at 8.5 min mile ....my training program says 7.56 min mile-I don't think so! I am not ready for that!

    Hi,

I'm running the Dublin marathon on 25th October.

Your welcome to ad me as a friend if you want to see my log or need any help.

Done my first ever last July & a second in August. Great feeling.

Will say do 50/50 road/track, track being off road of any type. Long distance road running can cause some injuries & set u back.

    Regards,
    Colin.

I'm running the Vegas Rock 'n' Roll marathon on December 5th, 12 weeks for me so similar timeline. This will be my second marathon but I haven't done one in some time. Would love to keep track of our progress! I'm doing a runners world training program as well.
  • Thanks Dounia! I did a nice easy 3 miler on Sunday at 8.1 vs. the 8.5 I did on Friday...setting up for speedwork tonight!

Hi Colin-how long have you been running and what were your times if you don't mind?

nikiswimr....yeah for you! Have you been running long? I am getting excited for this, I just want to run the full 26.2 so badly!

  • Congrats to you Dounia! That is awesome!
My training is going ok...I did a tempo run this am...5mile ...3 miles at 8:37pace..better than the 8.50pace 2 weeks ago!
My speedwork from last week was okay-did an 8.06 mile and an 8.05 mile.....much harder to run after work for me, I am exhausted!

That is great Princess.. You are doing fabulous..
Ya the speed work is hard to do after a full day of work. I usually wake up at 4:00 am and do my workout before going to work.
in the evening, it is crazy after work, and the kids.. all i want to do is sleep:)
see if you can change your speed work at least to early morning..
    happy running

Oh you will be more than ready by then.
I would suggest to aim for may be one or two half marathons before then to keep you motivated and focused and as well, a great way to know where you are.
If you need any help, let me know and i will be more than happy to help. I have run many marathons and iron-man and many cycling competitions. I had put on 20 pounds during my second preganacy and this is why i am using MFP to get rid of it and get back into my shape. I am a fast runner and before my son, i always placed in the top 10 overall and first in my age group.. I still have about 7 pounds to go but it sure feels good to be lighter again
  • Did it! 4:35:22.................way better than I thought I could!

Now, give yourself a week of easy walking/swimming and enjoy your accomplishment..
    Grats again :drinker: :drinker:
  • Thank you:)
Dounia..when should I run again? My right knee feels a little funky-it was painful the first few days....should I try to run slowly this week?

    Hi Princess,

Ttry cycling and/or swimming and/or doing yoga for a full week; then get back into running. Once you start running again, go back slowly and start increasing your mileage as you go.
let me know how you are feeling.
