HI,

Ive been searching the forums & google for info on G.I. Diet. Im very familiar with Clean Eating (My short interpretation of C.E. = veggies, fruits, lean meats, nuts, dairy. Basically try to stay away from processed foods). I was hoping some of you could share your personal experience/knowledge with me so I can pre-plan some meals and see where I will go with this.

1. Im getting mixed info on GI Diet vs Wheat based products, any clarity here?
2. How does a GI Diet compare to clean eating?

Thank you for your time,
Nancy

The Glycemic Index is inherently flawed IMO:

    Great article on it:

Why not eat anything you want in moderation and keep a calorie deficit?

Clean eating and such aren't necessary to lose weight

There are a few diets based on GI and GL. My weight loss approached was heavily influenced by it, and it worked very well. And best of all, I've kept it off for over a decade.
In fact, I'd still say that in addition to the goal of fueling my body, I look for nutrient dense, high fiber veggies (which will be lower GI) and if/when I eat breads (personal, tummy choice) I look for breads without enriched, bleached flour, and that have some fiber. Ezekiel bread is a great choice.
Feel free to friend me. I'm eating pretty "deliberately" right now, and while I don't log, I have been talking about my meals on my profile and in my blog.
Also, feel free to PM me.
Best of luck with your journey.

    Thanks Sabine!

Tedrickp - Thanks for the link, I'll check out that link to GI diet flawed

Lishiefruit89 - Ive been advised by a naturopath to skip wheat, dairy, alcohol, sodas etc. So for a trial of couple of months I wanted to try eliminating this from my diet. The GI Diet had a lot of similarities so this is why Im looking into it more. I agree with your comment otherwise.

Tavisstocktoad - Different foods spike your sugar levels more than others. The cliff notes is to eat foods that keep your sugar levels even so you dont "crash' or have as many cravings.

It's great when you don't crash. I feel so much more in control of my eating.
If you focus on the nutrient dense high fiber vegetables, and lean proteins and look for added sugars in weird things like dressings and sauces. You should be well on your way. I don't care if the GI is "flawed" or not. I know it works for me. Best of luck.

It is inherently flawed - that is sort of beyond debate.

BUT Im glad it worked for you. I firmly believe in people sticking to what works for them. :flowerforyou:

I just wanted to present the contrarian view in case the OP thought they HAD to follow the GI to lose weight. Best of luck to you both!
