Okay I have excess skin everywhere and I have got pretty used to that. But this morning when I realized my armpit (the part where hair grows) was visible with my arms down. Even in my bra there was some, so that how bad it is. My question is has anyone experienced this before and what did they do to correct it?

Time to start an upper body strength training regimen, if you haven't already. That fixed mine pretty quickly.

I have not experienced that, but time and moisture are your best bets. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and moisturize your skin to keep it supple. Also, make sure you eat enough fat, as low fat diets can lead to dry skin. Then time should shrink some of the skin.

Or, you could have surgery to remove some of the excess skin. I'd suggest waiting until you are at goal before doing that, though.

What type of strength training causes skin to shrink?

Your skin is an organ. It grew when it needed to and it will shrink over time as well. Your skin's ability to shrink will depend on your age and how many years you were overweight (and to what degree). But many have had great results over time.

Unfortunately, you can't really control which part of your body shrinks first. As already mentioned, drink a lot of water and incorporate strength training! It does wonders for your body, including your skin. By strengthening the muscles in your problem area, it will aid in that areas appearance. But again, you can't spot reduce (both fat and skin).

Patience is your best tool. It will take time, but you will get there.

Strength training and giving your body time to adjust to weight loss will help tighten up certain areas. At least, that's been my experience with it. It doesn't shrink skin, obviously, but it does improve your body's appearance.

Agreed, exercise of any type will usually approve overall body appearance. But I've never known it to shrink skin, which I think is what the OP was asking about.

Okay thanks everyone for your reply. I guess there is no magic answer to this as there is none for losing weight. I may have already know that but didn't want to accept it.

Make sure you vitamin d levels are optimum. Get a blood test. Vit D,E,K and A are toxic if overdosed so don't take a high dose without confirming your levels

I know the feeling about the lose skin. Looking back there are a few things I would have done differently to minimize this. For now patience, exercise and hydration will help. Also to exfoliate with in a manner that is comfortable with you ( I use a soap stone ) will remove the dry flakes of skin and cause a rejuvenation of skin cells. Thereby making your skin tighter. No overnight fix for sure but quicker than doing nothing.
  • I'm having surgery later this month to remove my excess arm skin from the armpit to the elbow. I exercise, hydrate, exfoliate, strength train, get my vitamins, moisturize and wear compression clothing and none of this helps.

My surgeon does say that age and how long someone has been overweight are the biggest factors, but once the fat cells are there, they stay and adhere to the stretched out skin. Weight loss and regain are also issues because skin loses it's elasticity over time. He estimates that he will remove 2-3 pounds of skin and reduce my upper arms from a floppy 14" to a firm 10".
