Gym day or rest day?

Trying to decide: to gym or to rest tonight?
Argument for gym: ate junk at lunch and am going for steak dinner tonight
Argument for rest: Did heavy lifting Tues and Wed (still mega sore) and 45 min cardio Mon and Thurs...
I'm going along with whatever receives most votes by 4:45pm... what say you MFPers?!!!! Opinions, comments, ridicule (theres a few on every post).... bring it!

I was going to take a rest day because my foot has a scab and it hurts to run. But I decided against it. Running after I do everything I need to do today. If I was able to recover from a messed up foot and messed up knee, this is nothing.
PUSHING ON!!!
Should probs work out0 -

With 4 gym days in a row and DOMS, I vote rest day and hit the gym again tomorrow.0

I don't believe in doing unscheduled exercise just because I ate something or am going to eat something indulgent later; I have a fitness plan and schedule and I pretty much stick to that. It's more important that you're hitting and netting to your goals over the course of weeks, not day to day minutia.
For me, Friday is a rest day period...I'm also having steak tonight and some bourbon...and probably too many beers. I will get up tomorrow morning and hit the weight room and do some cross-train cardio afterwards as that is what is scheduled for Saturdays.
By the by, the actual benefits of lifting come with rest...lifting is just the catalyst...the magic happens when you get adequate rest.0 -
Do some light cardio, (unless you're like me, then do some heavy cardio because I don't seem to understand the word light with cardio). That way you have some extra calories to "play" with for that steak dinner.0

weekends are my rest forever days
rest day tomorrow?0 -
I'd say just do something light! Such as a short jog or something. Keeps you motivated and doesn't put much strain on your muscles after a long week of exercise :]0

Go, you won't regret it. In fact, you deserve a double day just for even asking.0 -

Partially agree, except the PLAN was back and biceps today- the workout was scheduled. Had nothing to do with food choices- the food choices are just making me feel guilty about skipping a scheduled workout BUT!! I can probably go harder, better, faster, longer tomorrow with a rest and a steak under my belt

Gym day. If you're teetering, always go.0

I have been resting since 12/2013. According to my recovery data, I need to fall back a little. So I will go hard either tomorrow or Sunday. Tonight I will rest and consume some a little more alcohol to prepare me
You should rest as well its still holiday time.0 -

If it's a scheduled gym day, go. If it's scheduled rest day, rest.
The answer is always in the scheduling.0 -
@cwolfman: the original plan before the lunch was to go- the lunch is just making it harder for me to skip without guilt- plus today is back and bicep day aka my least favorite
Then you definitely need to go.0 -
Close race- "go" is winning by one0

How are you calories looking for the week?
Is tomorrow a scheduled work out day? Can you just move it til tomorrow?
If I were you, I think I would do some walking and light stretching or yoga for recovery and hit it hard tomorrow.0 -
Then I go...but do you have a scheduled rest day? It sounds like need a rest day and maybe that you need to adjust your regimen and what days you're doing what and to what intensity.0 -
I was going to rest tomorrow because I had an obligation that prevented me from getting to the gym, but it got cancelled because of inevitable snow- so I'm thinking I may switch rest to today and hard workout to tomorrow0
-
Ugh if its even do I have to decide for myself? Balls0

I like this ideal.0 -
Sold! Tho I will take the "active rest advice" and take a walk and stretch a bit. Thanks all!0
-
I agree...active rest and stretch...preferably foam rolling the sore spots.0
