Why does microwave popcorn have more calories before it's popped?

Every time I read the calories it's like: 120 calories unpopped 2 Tbs
40 calories one cup popped

Why? And who in the heck would even eat it 'unpopped'?

    one cup of unpopped corn is much more then one cup popped....and I know no one who would eat it unpopped

    Hmmm. am guessing but likely your 2 tbs unpopped makes 3 cups popped, probably the same calories overall. Myself I use the unpopped reference when counting the calories ... easier to measure a TBS of unpopped kernels than a cup popped.
