Calorie burn from exercise

Does MFP generate the gross calories or net calories from exercise? ie does it make assumption that of the calories burned in an exercise some would have been burned as part of BMR so calorie burn should be the net, ie the incremental rather than the gross including the BMR element?

I assume all calories from HRM or other sources are gross and convert to nett then if I am wrong, I am wrong on the right side, also MFP is either very low or very high so I stick with HRM and calculate my own then convert it to net here

Thanks, I have been doing the same, using the shapesense tool and taking the view that any error is on the right side. Glad to see others share my view. However, just thought I would check.0
