TDEE - 25% if still above my BMR?

MFP has me set at a little above 1,400 calories if I aim to lose 1.5 lbs/week. On the Scooby calculator, I have it set for 1 - 3 hours of light exercise per week.

My BMR is 1597 according to Scooby. If I set it to TDEE - 20%, it has me at 1,726 calories/day. If I set it to TDEE - 25%, it has me at 1,646 calories/day.

Would it best to start off at TDEE - 20% and see where that gets me in a timespan of 6 - 8 weeks, or because TDEE - 25% is above my BMR should I start there?

I have 55 pounds to lose. I am 5' 4", 185 lbs, and 20 years old.

I would suggest not going at a greater deficit than -20%. You should lose 1-2 pounds per week on that and the best part is that it will make it easier to keep it off than increasing the rate. So see how it goes for about 8 weeks and that should give you a good picture of where you are.

Maximum deficit is going to be a function of how much excess fat you have laying around. A 25% deficit is no problem at all for someone with a lot to lose, but could be a big problem for someone looking to lose the last 10 pounds.
