My grandmother is going to show me how to make tomato soup with cream of wheat dumplings. I have no idea how many actual tomatoes we will use or I should be weighing the actual tomato or calculating the juice.

Can anyone help me weigh this recipe? I know you can plug it in to the calculator but I am always lost on servings especially with soup.

I know there is tomato juice, sour cream and the cream of wheat. Once I get to her house I will know how much of everything, or have a better idea since she never measures...lol.

I generally weigh everything and combine all coming up with the weight of the whole dish and calories of it all then plug it in. So it would be like 3,876 grams is 2030 calories and then just put in what I eat to get a more accurate total (I think).

The dumpling will be hard as well since the package might say it makes 2 bowls at 150 calories but we are making dumplings and even though there are say 30 dumplings all of different weigh everyone might not get the same in each serving.

If all that makes sense. Maybe I am over thinking it but I love this soup and would love to know the calorie count before I start.

I would just guestimate. How many tomatoes, how much sour cream, ingrediants in dumplings. This sounds sooo awesome, you must share this recipe! please! (have a ton of tomatoes and made some soup but didnt turn out too great)

I make tomato soup, but cream of wheat dumplings sound awesome! Please share the recipe. Also, I agree about the measuring the soup and then putting in per cup.

Ok so it is really pretty easy.

We juiced the tomatoes before so we used 2 jars. The jars are like average pickle jars.

I tired to measure everything as best as I could but my oma is not a measurer at all.

So she uses 2 jars of tomato juice and then 1/2 a jar each of water.

    My measurements

7 1/2 cups of tomato juice
    4.5 cups of water

    Mix and boil

In a sperate dish mix 1.75 cups of cream of wheat, 3 eggs and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well and set aside unitl juice is boiled. Then spoon in the cream of wheat.

Let boil for 5 or so minutes

In the meantime mix up about 375g of sour cream and 1 cup of water.

Remove from heat and let cool a little. You need to carefully put in the sour cream mixture but if it is too hot it will go lumpy.
She puts a little of the soup into the sour cream mixture to warm it up and then when the soup is cooler adds the sour cream mixture. Add a little salt, maybe 2 teaspoons. If it is too sour you can always add a little more water.

It make a pretty big pot and I suck with how many servings so I broke everything up into grams and calories and if my calculations are right then for 500g of soup it is 310 calories. It is mostly tomato juice and water so?

If anyone else makes it or plugs it in can you send me a message to let me know what you got?

    TIA

Off to enjoy all my hard work
