I want thicker thighs and calves

My body is kind of an "inverted triangle" at the moment. My rib cage and shoulders are naturally broad, and my lower body (butt/thighs/calves) is skinny. I'd like to have thicker legs to balance out the broadness of my upper body, to be more "pear" shaped.

I'm looking to target my thighs and calves. I've read about doing squats and lunges, but I'm concerned that doing leg exercises will only make them look smaller by burning away any fat that's currently on them. Would this happen? What else I can do to thicken my legs out? Any advice much appreciated!
