Cold morning breakfast ideas

During the warmer months I have a protein smoothie every morning...with the cold weather the last thing I want to do is wake up & drink something ice cold. I usually end up skipping breakfast or carb overloading with a bagel. What are your quick winter breakfast choices? Oh & I don't eat eggs btw so that isn't an option.

I eat a lot of porridge - not sure how exciting that is for you? I often make compote (dried fruit and tea during the winter) or baked fruit at the weekend and have warmed leftovers on top of porridge on a Mon or Tues. Or have the leftovers with greek yogurt.
More often than not I eat a large apple or banana with some peanut butter (not the reduced fat stuff) at my desk at work.0 -
Bagel and cream cheese with some smoked salmon is delicious and full of protein (I had that this morning).
Cereal and milk
Greek yogurt with fruit and granola
Oatmeal
Or just skip breakfast if you're not hungry.0 -

Thank you, I guess I always forget about porridge (oatmeal). Most I've tried are just the packs you make in the microwave & full of sugar. I will do some research on some from scratch with baked fruit. Thanks!0 -
Yes, I make it from scratch as I don't like the instant stuff, for some reason it doesn't agree with my stomach.
The recipe below is really good, but a treat! I have put it on my recipes and it works out 207 calories if the whole lot is divided by 4, but for porridge I'd have a 6th instead.

I use dried apricots and prunes a lot, with black tea or apple juice and a cinnamon stick. I also make baked rhubarb a lot (a bit of water, and a little sugar for the sweet forced pink stuff, a bit more when it's greener and woodier, along with a bit of raw ginger or orange peel).
I sometimes grate an apple into the porridge or add rasins as well.0 -

A friend of mine makes a warm smoothie with almond or coconut milk, flax seed and/or nuts,a banana and cinnamon and cardimum. Just heat up the almond/coconut milk before blending.0

I like to make some quick oats with whole milk and either peanut butter, cocoa powder and a tsp of brown sugar OR strawberries or bananas and a tsp of vanilla. Super hot and steamy!
If you like tea or coffee, you could add half a cup of whole milk and grab a banana or something. . . just to get some calories in.0 -

You're welcome! Oatmeal by itself gets boring after a while. . . so I make it interesting. I like to add ground cinnamon, ginger, cloves and allspice and use strongly brewed chai tea instead of water or milk.0 -

I deal with the same thing. I have been in Florida for the last few years, and I haven't had to deal with winter until recently. Yesterday I discovered what is now the greatest joy in my life. I mix oatmeal (2 packets), peanut butter (2T), cinnamon (~1/2t), chocolate protein powder (1 serving). It tastes just like a Little Debbie Star Crunch. That makes a double batch because I'm working on getting my calories up, but it's pretty easy to come up with some really nice proportions. If you're using normal oatmeal, you may want to try sweetening with a bit of honey.
Since I use instant oatmeal, it doesn't take much longer than a protein shake, and there aren't really any dishes, which is a big bonus for me in the morning. It's also much quieter than a blender.0 -
If you're keen on cold, then raw oats are actually quite yummy and super quick. Google "Vegan Overnight Oats" and you're find a TON of suggestions0

I make steel cut oatmeal on the wekeend in a big batch and then parsel out into smaller containers for the mornings. I just put in some water or skim milk and microwave the smaller container for a couple of minutes and I'm done fast and easy. I make my oatmeal with water to cut down on teh calories both when cooking it and then reheating it. Two "favorite" topings lately have been "almond joy" where I put in a some almond slivers and shredded cocount. I had some almond joy creamer and I'd put a splash of that in also. other one was around thanksgiving where we had left over cranberry relish - put in a spoonfool of the relish in with the oatmeal - gives it a litle kick of tartness which was surprisingly refreshing for breakfast!0

Plenty of healthy (and unhealthy) versions of it. I can't have it now (too high in carbs) but I use to love to make a pan of it and take squares into work for breakfast. It's usually great cold, but good reheated with milk dumped on it as well.
Also, overnight oatmeal, if you want a container to grab and go for work. I loved the banana +PB versions of this, but pretty much, you can do whatever. Add flax seed, chia seed, whatever fruit and flavorings seem good to you. No cooking required, just some canning jars +lids.0 -

I use half a cup of quick oat and a cup of liquid. I microwave it for a minute at a time then stir for a while. In my old, old microwave it takes about 3 minutes. I let it sit for a minute to soak up all the stuff and it ends up thick and creamy.0 -

Oatmeal is probably the go-to warm breakfast, but for a change: I like to make this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/simple-baked-apples/) but substitute 1/2 cup almond milk and 1/4 cup stevia instead of whole milk and sugar. I serve it with a 1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt for a breakfast (or dessert!) that fits my macros nicely.0

2sluces silver hills little big bread, toasted topped with 1wedge laughing cow cheese, with 2poached eggs. Fruit on the side. Warm and a punch of protein for the cold winters.0

This is the link to a steel cut oatmeal recipe. Very easy to do and it cooks overnight in a slow cooker while you are sleeping so you wake up to a warm breakfast! Calorie content is listed and it is already entered into the data base so when you plug into the food diary it is all there for you. The temperature here without the wind chill is in the negative degrees so it has been a lifesaver for our family!!
