First post and getting started

January 5, 2014 9:14 pm
Just introducing myself here:)

I weigh in at 214lbs at the moment which is about 9lbs I've put on over a Christmas. I've put about 15 lbs on since January last year when I had a car accident and was immobile afterwards for a while then dragged down with a busy work schedule and bad habits!
My resolution is one I am keeping. I want it get back to 180 lbs with no time goal but ideally in the next six months.
I've joined a gym and plan to weigh my meals to keep portion sizes down but I don't plan to calorie count - I just want to eat sensibly and exercise which will be swimming for 39 minutes twice a week and the gym (running and cross training to start) 4 times a week for an hour (depending on how I get along).

I'm really drawing on your experience of is that a good idea or are there any disadvantages with my plan - particularly with not calorie counting.

Happy new year to you all and thanks for your help.

Mark

Best of luck to you with your weight loss goals. Your exercise plan sounds great but I would log the calories if you really want to see what you're eating. That's really kinda the point of MFP. It was shocking to me to see how many calories were in some of the foods I was eating.

Also you say you have no time frame but want to lose 34 lbs in a few months. You can do it I'm sure but would be easier if you track and log.

Best wishes and happy new year

People seriously underestimate how much they eat. The calorie counts & burns on MFP are just estimates, but they're still better than flying blind.

Weight loss takes a whole lot of trial & error. Try it your way for a few weeks. If you lose, great. If you don't, try logging.

Take before pics (wish I had), and read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
  • That's great advice and great links - enough for me to change my mind and I'm going to monitor my calories and exercise now.

    Many thanks again
