I'm back! I started on MFP in January 2009 when it was fairly new and unheard of. Now 5 years later I am back. I never thought I would be back in this position ever again. I was able to maintain my weight until I moved 2 years ago and then I started to slip. Now 40 lbs later I need motivation. I have always wanted to start running but just never took the first step. Any suggestions on where to start? And any other ideas of how to get motivation?

I lost 70 lbs and gained 30 lbs. I'm not sure I have any proven suggestion but I plan on using this site and the community to lose the weight again and once its gone I will continue to track. It is pretty easy to put on the blinders to your calorie intake when you aren't tracking. I figure committing to tracking this point onwards my be the key.

Feel free to add me... I willing to help motivate a fellow person making a comeback! :)

Good for u for getting back on the band wagon!!! I am also restarting after gaining more than my previous highest weight!!! It's frustrating but we can't look back. We just have to keep moving forward! In relation to running, I was the girl that was never athletic in school. I would run 10 feet and my side would hurt and I would be totally out of breath. I started out by running for 30 seconds and walking for 3 minutes for a total of 30 minutes. I followed one of the couch to 5k programs. I think that the best advise I ever got was that I need to run SLOW as a beginner. Barely faster than a walking pace. That has been huge for me. I have since run a 5k, a 10k, 8 miles nonstop and I am training for my first half marathon, I will be 43 in a week. I may run slow......... But I am a RUNNER! You can do it too. Lose the weight and be a runner! Best of luck to you and I hope this helps!

Couch25K is a good running program you can follow. Hal Higdon has good training programs to follow, too.

The Couch to 5K running program is a really good place to start for a beginner runner, and almost anyone can do it. You may need to adjust the timeline to suit your current fitness level.

There are apps available if you have a smartphone for this program also which are helpful when you're training.

ETA: Don't worry too much about the regained weight. A lot of us have gone through a loss then a regain before. Just take it as a learning experience and try to understand where things went wrong so you don't end up here again the future. Best of luck to you!

put one foot in front of the other. I think there was a song about it in Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

I used couch to 5k. It takes 9 weeks, but I repeated a few. Good luck.

    Hi,
Feel free to add me. Two years ago I worked VERY hard to lose 35 lbs. Over this past (very stressful) year I have gained 30 of it back. Nothing to do but start again! :) I'm looking for encouragement and would love to come alongside and encourage others facing the same challenge.

Thank you everyone for the kind advice :) I appreciate it a lot! I know I can do this, we all can. I want to feel sexy and skinny again lol. I think I will try out slow with the running when there isn't snow on the ground. Thank you again.
