Need cardio suggestions to do (with a sprained ankle!)

I need some suggestions--I have a sprained ankle (likely needs surgical repair) but I have a wedding in 10 weeks. Unfortunately, the dress the bride picked was made for people waaaaaaay smaller than I am!!!

So, I need to lose some weight before the wedding. I have a plan for eating, but exercise will be super challenging with my ankle issue.

Does anyone have suggestions for cardio exercise that doesn't include legs at all? ;) I have some yoga/pliates videos I can do most of, I can do push-ups/ab work, but I can't figure out how on earth I can get in cardio.

Any thoughts?

I don't know of anything that you can do besides swimming and the limited yoga and pilates you mentioned.

You can still loose weight by keeping track of your calories though...even though it isn't as fun. I say this as someone who pinched her sciatic nerve and most exercise is just not possible now. I'm totally bummed. Good luck.
  • Swimming is a good thought--thank you for that! I hadn't thought of it but it might just work! I am glad to know that I can (hopefully) still lose with eating changes only.....I've sort of gone in to panic mode! :)

    Thank you for your thoughts!
  • Oh and CONGRATS on your weight loss-that is fantastic!!!! :):)

DEFINITELY hit the water --- try a deep water aerobics class - works your muscles in such different ways! pretty much the pool helped me get from 350+ to where I am now! Plus when I was at my heaviest ( and in wheelchair because of my arthritis) I went to some "chair aerobics dance classes" I'm sure there are tons of sit n get fit things on the net! Best wishes on the loss and quick healing... Oh and to the bride n groom too!

If you can, run the swimming idea by your physical therapist or orthopedist. It might be fine, but it also might push your ankle too far. If you're borderline on needing surgery, you don't want to make it any worse.

A wedding isn't worth permanently damaging your ankle. The best chance of recovery is rest plus physical therapy.

How much weight are you talking about? Ten weeks isn't very long, and you also have to factor in time to get the dress altered if you do lose weight.
