How your cycle affects your weight loss

Now that I'm losing weight again, I notice that my body weight can fluctuate a great deal from day-to-day, as much as 5 pounds at a time. I understand that a lot of things can affect this, but I do wonder if part of it could be my cycle. The problem is, I don't know when my cycle occurs because I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago and while I still have my ovaries, they're not very communicative about when they're doing their thing.
Can someone explain how weight can fluctuate so much? This is a Weight Loss 101 kind of question, but I really don't know all of the factors.
