I hear the metabolism slows down, should I get out ahead of it and reduce my calories for the next month or so? Or am I just doomed and should expect to gain a little?

I'm no expert but having seen friends and students trying to quit smoking I would recommend that you stick with what you're used to. Making life more difficult for yourself in other aspects will make both healthy choices and quitting harder.
Good luck in both tho!0 -
I never smoked but how about one thing at a time? Quit first eat normal see if you gain weight from it and if you are then create a safe and healthy deficit to lose weight0

I say one thing at a time...IMO though people gain weight moreso because they substitute eating as their oral fixation. I want to quit smoking but right now, losing this weight is enough to handle.0
