Percentage of food groups

In really simple, straight forward terms how do I work out how much protein, carbs and fat my diet should consist of? Have done so many daft diets over the years I've just ended up confused! Thanks :)

    Went to iifym.com/tdee-calculator after inputting details it suggested 20% carb, 35% fat and 45% protein - although I had to guess my body fat so over estimated to be on the safe side - does this sound about right?!?!
