i have read that 2000 steps is 1 mile. Then why is it that my pedometer says i have walked 11548 steps but in the miles thing it only says 2.56? Do any of you know for sure.. and on this site it doesnt ask how many miles we have walked it says for how long. I wear my pedometer at work i cant write 8 hours. Any ideas so i can get this right? thank

check your stride length to make sure of the accuracy. If you have a short stride or a long stride, that effects your distance.

I would only count the "extra steps" outside of work. I use to waitress and for fun would wear my pedometer to work, but I only counted the ones that I walked outside of work on my daily or nightly walks.
And I agree with viviakay about making sure you set it up correctly to your stride.
    Good luck, Kelly

even the best pedometer is not 100% accurate as there those little steps the bigsteps and so forth that get thrown in there. One of the things I have done is to just know that 1 click on the pedometer = 1 min as far as in my head. The nice thing about it is you can adjust your calories to the steps taken even though it ask for mins.

Mine is always wrong as far as mileage goes. I've measured it against the treadmill and outdoors. It's low. If it was high, I would think I was taking some small steps, but low doesn't make sense. The steps are right though (I have one with three giggle settings, if you giggle more you adjust it down), so I just guestimate. I don't even look at the mileage anymore.

So I would check for giggleness - walk 100 steps, check pedometer. If giggleness is ok, just make mileage = 1800-2400 steps. Shorter people need more steps to make a mile.

Several years ago, I bought my pedometer from Amazon (it had excellent customer reviews); it's an Omron HJ-112. I've been very happy with it. It's still very highly rated.
