Hi everyone,
I am from California and am new to this site. I actually discovered MFP as an app on my iPod Touch and have been using it for the last 5 days. I pretty much just logged in through the computer to explore what MFP offers. So far, I have to say it's pretty cool. I've never really known how to truly diet or what to look for when consuming food, so this has caused me to be a freak about everything now regarding weights of stuff such as...how much a nectarine weighs and what it's calories are. Anyone have a way to go about this?
Also one thing about me, health-wise is that I suffer from hypothyroidism...which means my thyroid gland is not doing what it's supposed to and is possibly causing my weight gain and causing my metabolism to slow down. I don't think I eat a lot but I will admit that I feel self conscience sometimes when I do eat, because I feel that people judge me and say "she must eat and eat...that's why she's the size she is".
Anyway I'm happy to get some support and form a group where we can motivate each other. I just began my gym regiment this past Tuesday & hope/plan to work out at least 4 out of 7 days a week.
My goal is to be at my ideal weight (which is 115 pounds away) or at least drop 85 lbs by mid july 2011. I want to look nice when my brother renews his vows!
Will you join me??...what's your story?

Hi,
Me too, I have this app on my cell phone, and its very good. It really has helped. I log everything in it, and even so, everytime i go to put something in my mouth, I pull my phone out, and try and find it on the "add" food thingy, and if I dont find it right, I go stuff it, and don't eat it. And it has got to the point that if I am going to eat something that is not part of my main meals and diet, It gets tedious getting out my cell phone every time to log it in, so I don't eat it.......so it actually helps with eating less
The point is to also do great work outs, even walking at a brisk rate helps truck loads, start off with 15 mins a day, and slowly increase it.
best of luck! I know you can do it!

Thought I'd say hi - I'm almost the same age (turning 27 in November), and when I started, I had about 95 lbs to lose. I also suffer from hypothyroidism (am on medication for it). You CAN do this - I've found success by working out regularly, drinking lots of water and sticking with a fairly balanced diet, avoiding as much added sugars and processed food as possible. I also closely watch my sodium. I'm not perfect, but most days I do okay.
Good Luck!0 -
I'm in the process of trying to reclaim my life and when I look at the total number of pounds I need to lose I feel a little overwhelmed so I have broken mine down into two portions... the first half then the second. MFP is the best tool I have used and it's full of great members and advice. I'm learning as I go and feel confident that this is a new way of life for me! Congrats on your new lifestyle!0
