Super healthy green/orange iced tea
This is so simple it most likely doesn't need a recipe, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway.
Ingredients
4 oranges
10 green tea bags (or equivalent tea in a bell/sieve)
10 8-oz cups of water (standard cup)
Cut oranges in half and juice them with a citrus juicer. Collect the juice.
Unwrap tea bags/fill the tea bell and place in a large glass pitcher. Do not use plastic, as boiling water may melt it.
Bring the 10 cups of water to a boil over a high flame. Remove from heat, and allow to sit about 45 seconds to slightly cool. Then pour into pitcher and allow to steep for about 5 minutes.
Next, add the orange juice to the brewing tea without removing the tea bags. Allow to steep for about 3 more minutes, and then remove the teabags with a slotted spoon. Chill in refrigerator.
Makes 10 8oz cup servings
Sweeten if desired (it is very bitter otherwise). I reccomend using stevia or honey.
~27 calories
~7g carbs
(the values will vary based on the oranges used, their size, and how well juiced they are)
The reason you leave the green tea in with the orange juice for a few minutes is because the antioxidants contained in green tea are very unstable. Most of them can't successfully make it through digestion. However, adding citrus juice has been found to increase the stability of the antioxidants, which means a whole slew of great health benefits because many more of them can actually survive into your body.
