I want to be at around 140 by August 1, 2014 for a wedding I will be attending. A family friend from high school who happened to be "the popular guy" is getting married, and I've received an invitation through my family. All of the people who were less than friendly in high school will be there, and while I have found great success through academics and in my work I find that I am still the chubby girl that they made fun of when I was 15. I'd love to walk in and WOW them all!
Yet with the polar vortex I have yet to go to the gym this year. I get out into the cold and I think "instead of commuting to the gym I could go home, eat dinner, and get warm. That sounds much better."
Anyone else feeling challenged by this? It doesn't help that I've been in a constant state of "diet" for more than a year and have only lost a few pounds.

So, get out of the "diet" mindset and just do it. You do not need to go to the gym to workout, there are many people who workout from home. Is it possible to re-frame this to you want to get healthy and drop some pounds for you versus dropping it for other people that gave you crap when you were 15 years old?

My best tip would be to get out of the mindset that the only workout that counts is 30-60 minutes in a gym. I live in Florida so the cold isn't the problem for me, but sometimes after a stressful day at the office the idea of changing and heading to the gym seems daunting.
Instead of telling yourself it's the gym or nothing, why don't you try doing some shorter workouts in your apartment? Magazines, YouTube, various websites, OnDemand on Digital Cable, etc. offer 10-15 minute regimens you can do right at home. Doing one of these a few times a week might be a good way to ease into working out. Once it becomes part of your routine, maybe that will help you get more motivated to hit the gym when the weather is less chilly.0 -

^^^ This. The only thing that changes when you lose weight is the number on the scale. If people want to make fun of you, then they will find any reason. Who cares about their opinion about anything in your life? Losing weight for an event only makes it that much harder to stay at a lower weight once the event is passed.
The only thing that has got me to the gym or to workout (it's been so cold my car won't start and I have only left the house ONCE in the last week) is commitment. You said you've found success in your work and academics, well what made you successful in those things? Chances are it was your commitment and attitude. Apply those same principles to your body.0 -
instead of doing it for "the mean kids" do it for yourself....
and as for your consistent state of diet and only lost a few pounds???? you weren't dieting....you ate what you considered a diet and had a very small calorie deficet each week.
Weight loss comes from a reasonable calorie deficet and the only way to know for sure that you are doing that is to weigh and log your food.
Exercise is good for the body and allows for more food but if you eat too much and exercise you will still gain.0 -
Stop dieting.
