Is it possible to eat out anywhere without blowing the sodium out of the water? I just ate at Subway and almost an entire's day sodium was in that sandwich. $%&*())(*&^%$%^&*()_)(*&^%$%^&*()_

anything you get eating out, the food is prepacked and pretty much heated up when you order it, so its all like a big TV Dinner, but places subway uses lunch meat which is very high in sodium.0

I know it is tough but we just have drink more water to help get it out. As long as you are not going crazy every day then it should all turn out fine! I had to remind myself that today!0

Water is not a problem. I think I drink a gallon + a day. I have seen days when under calorie count and sodium is over 4.5k0

My wife made a dish at home that included ground beef and pork-and-beans. At the end of the day my sodium was over by almost 3000 mg. So canned goods seem to be just as bad as the "eating out" stuff.0

Shane - I think it really emphasizes that it needs to be a once in a while thing and not an everyday occurrence.
Bill - canned items are harsh as well. Especially most of the canned veggies. Amazing how much sodium they stuff in.0 -
Honestly I think the whole "sodium is bad" movement is really blown out of proportion. Studies show that as long as you drink enough water you should be fine. The 8 cups a day is enough for 2500mg per day so if you go over, just drink even more water and you should be fine. Unless you already have high blood pressure of course. I have always had a lot of salt in my diet but I drink a LOT of water. My weight comes from eating too much food, not a little bloating from sodium. Besides, all you lose when you cut out sodium is water weight.0

Frustrating, isn't it?
The only place I have been able to eat out at in the past 6 months w/o overdoing the sodium is at Outback Steakhouse. I get the steak, unseasoned steamed veggies and a salad w/ dressing on the side.
Good luck! :flowerforyou:0 -
On canned veggies, I'm sure you know you can buy low salt or no salt canned goods these days, on most things at least, but if you can't get them then you can rinse them before using them. This doesn't eliminate the sodium but it definitely helps. I've also found it's very easy to watch the sodium count go up quickly. Good luck!0

Check out nutritional values before you go out to eat if possible. Then pre-plan what you are going to order and how you are going to order it cooked. The 6 oz Outback Special has almost 600mg of sodium as it is usually prepared but if you ask for it without the butter and seasoning it has less than 100mg of sodium and tastes just as great.
I have high blood pressure and my husband and I eat out about 4 times a week. I've managed to stay under the 2500mg just by pre-planning what I'm going to order.0
