Good idea or no?

I have been on the weight loss wagon for almost 3 months. I have lost about 55 lbs. I have had tons of success and feel great! I still have a lot more to loose. (A minimum of 78 lbs. A max of about 108) I have really fallen head over heels for running.
Currently I have been doing about 30-40 min of cardio 6 days a week followed by 20 minutes of weight lifting. (I do upper body one day, then legs and abs the next day.) I have been thinking of two different scenarios:
1. Stick with my cardio time daily followed by do one day upper body, one day lower body and one day abs IE Monday run and abs. Tuesday run and upper body Wednesday run and lower body Thursday rest Friday run and abs etc.... OR
2. Do 60 min of running one day. The following day do 30 min cardio and then 30 min strength (upper body or lower body/ abs) IE: Longer run Sunday, Monday 30 cardio and weights Tuesday longer run Wednesday 30 min and weights etc..
Now I have no race I have signed up for yet but I am considering doing some this spring/summer. Mainly just 5k's maybe a half-marathon in the fall.
Any help, advice, or suggestions would be great.
Do either of those make more sense than the other?
