Need to loose 15 pounds

Hi. I'm 39 and I'm finally ready to loose that 15 pounds and get back to my size 8 happy weight. I work out about 5 days a week, so I know with me it's all diet. So i've been here since monday and i've been tracking calories. It's shocking how little I can eat. It has me set on 1230 before exercise and i was probably eating a good 2000 plus a day before. And shockingly holding pretty steady at the 162 pounds I was at for a good 6 months. But I was 147 six years ago and would like to get back to that, even though metabolism has slowed down and activity as well once life gets busy. So any tips?

Google TDEE calculator (IIFYM is the site I use), enter your daily activity level and that will tell you exactly how many calories you should be eating to maintain the weight you are at today. To lose weight simple subtract 15-20% from that nnumber and eat that. Calculate your BMR and never eat below that. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat! But I am 43. You are not alone. I have cut way back on sugar, but I am training for a marathon so I need more calories. Just trying to make better choices! So frustrating!!

You're doing the right stuff by being here and keep track of what you're eating. What sorts of workouts are you doing? If all you're going for is to get back into that size 8, weight lifting can get you there, probably well before you lose 15 pounds.

The best things I did was 1) get a food scale and 2) start lifting.

And don't get discouraged, little frog! It took you 6 years to put on the 15 pounds, so don't be surprised that it will take more than 5 days to take it off. Heck, maybe you had a salty meal and are retaining some water. Maybe you're at a certain point in your cycle. Maybe the scale was a little off-balance. Maybe you had a glass of water before weighing yourself. If you keep doing what you're doing, and log everything, the number on the scale will go down.

    Patience and persistence.

I lift weights for 45 minutes 2x a week, do a cardio dance class 2x a week for 60 minutes, a ballet barre class 2x a week for 60 minutes, and usually walk my dog about 45 minutes 3x a week. So the activeness of my life is probably why I didn't gain @ 2000 calories a day.

When is the best time to weigh yourself. I usually do it in the gym at night in a sports bra and pants. No shoes.

I always weigh myself in the morning, I'm usually 2lbs heavier at night.
