low carb dieting for the man

I'm actually inquiring opinions on behalf of my husband. He needs to lose quite a bit of weight. I have lost up to 80 labs and I think I have inspired him somewhat. He knows he needs to lose weight and is willing but not into counting calories. He and I have differing views on dieting. I like to revamp my favorite recipes so I can have some of what I love (for me, that is sweets); he would rather just do without. He often tells me he just needs to eat less (portion control). He is willing to eat some new foods and like I said he will go without other foods. My problem with this is that I never see him stick with this. I suggested that he try a low carb diet but I have concerns about the high fat part of that diet. He will eat some vegetables, but not many, he needs to eat more fruits, but again he's open to that. He loves his steak and potatoes. He knows that he needs to avoid "the white stuff" and I think he is okay with that, too.

I just wanted to get some of your thoughts, especially the good ol' boys out there! I want to help him without being the nagging wife. I already know that that doesn't help anything at any time. What are some ways that I can help him be more successful? He has the large belly and that is why I worry about his heart with the high fat. Can he be successful on low crab without trying to alter the ketos, or whatever that is?

Thanks for your input!!!

high protein doesn't necessarily mean high fat. I personally carb cycle and on my high protein days I eat a huge amount of protein but keep fat below 50g total and carbs <15%.

I will advise - it sounds like the two of you have very different methods. Be careful not to try to change the other one or else fights will ensue! Remember that there is no single "right" way and just let him do his thing. As long as he is getting results, he is getting healthier.
