The subject line wasn't long enough This was a question for Fit/Healthy people.
There has to be a way to create healthy thoughts that keep on churning in our minds that are automatic maybe.. Thoughts That make me want to get up and move, that make me want to eat right without a second thought.
I just am not sure how to get from here.
the here is...yes this salad is going to be great, but I sure miss ice-cream. Oh it's raining out I should just blow off today's walk, well I'll get on the elliptical instead and do my time there today. Always that part of me that wants to put it off, or make some kind of excuse. (this is lately, before I'd just give in and not exercise or eat right- but there's part of me that doesn't want to eat right or exercise a lot lately.)
When where I would like to be is Whoo-Hoo! exercise I feel awesome! Ice-cream pffftttt who needs that crap?
Is that the way people who are fit and healthy think? I figure if I have a destination I'll be able to get there, but I want to make sure that the destination is realistic.

The thing I've learned is it comes in cycles, just like the rest of your life.
Think about it, some mornings you jump out of bed....some mornings you have to drag your booty out of bed kicking and screaming.
Working out/healthy eating is the same. Some days, it's super easy for me to get to the gym...I actually am like "Whoo-hoo! exercise!" Other days, I have to just behave as if I'm "Whoo-hoo! exercise!" Someone (I think it was an academic skills seminar) once said something very valuable "you don't have to like it. you just have to do it."
For food, it's the same. Somedays, I actually crave vegetables and fruits. Some days, I just have to remind myself that although ice cream is delicious, it's not going to give my the level of quality fuel that a salad or some lean protein would.
So, don't expect it to be easy all the time. And, more importantly, don't beat yourself up during those times it isn't easy.
HTH.
p.s. If this is encouraging, six years ago, if somebody had told me that I'd qualify as a "Fit/Healthy people", I would have fallen over laughing. So, change is possible. :flowerforyou:0 -
A couple of thoughts keep me focused and grateful for fitness.
1) I run (or walk, or whatever it is) because I CAN. I know it's a gift, and there are so many out there who would trade places with me in a minute On those days when I 'hate" to get up and go outside for a run, walk, or hike, I remind myself that it's a gift that I CAN do it, and I honor the gift by using it. I know that, like any gift, if I don't honor it , it will be taken away from me.
2) Food. There are any number of days when I would love to dive head-first into the cookie jar. It's on those days when I remind myself that "I've come too far to take orders from a cookie:-)" (It's a quote on several MFP signature lines...not sure where to attribute it).0 -
I agree with Viviakay, it does come in cycles, and also sometimes i think you have to something nice to eat like a 'treat' and i find it helps to keep on track. You can then say yes i've had ****** (whaterever) i've really enjoyed it and now i'll continue with the 'healthy eating'. Today i had some apple pie ( i have terrible sweet tooth), and i split the calories between today and the other half for tomorrow, lol maybe some would say not to count for tomorrow as we don't know what tomorrow will bring. I don't advise to do it all the time but as a one off it's not so bad. So today i was within my calorie limit and then tomorrow as i've included it i can just carry on tracking my food. i think this will help with the motivation also as today i didn't go over my calorie intake, so i don't feel disheartened.
I think the key is to accept your human, we all have cravings, just as long as if you do 'fall off the wagon' you get straight back on. Also maybe you're a little bored. Maybe change your exercise routine or exercise that you do, look up new recepies to try - you can get loads online, just type in 'low fat recepies' in search engine and lots come up. Good luck, keep up the good work Helen x0 -

I love this! Thank you so much for putting this in perspective! We are given such a gift to be able to move and walk and run and so many people don't have that gift. It's really great to keep that in mind and let there be joy in the workouts!0 -
Thank you Ladies for replying, I think I thought I would get to a point where I would wake up one day and just not want ice cream. That one day I would not have the days when it's like ugh exercise. So that doesn't really sound like that's normal, and thank you for putting it in perspective so I can keep it real.
Vivakay HTH! my Mommasita, I love you more than my luggage, yoga teacher and best friend says that. your PS is encouraging and Thanks for the smile. & Balnc9 I like the quote about the cookie, I've learned a lot today about being humble and grateful so Thank you. & Thank you too Helen I try my best not to beat myself up and the tips are great.0
