Here I am.
Still figuring things out, but had to start somewhere, so jumped on this site.
50 years and 5' 10" @190. Its about time I start counting backwards - in weight and how old I feel.
Motivation is not the problem; it's all about the time commitment so I am picking smaller/easier battles to start.
First is to start watching what I eat. Logging things on this site is easy enough - especially with usually having a smartphone with me. Not too worried about changing the diet to drastically yet - just want to look at what I have been putting in my body from a different angle. From there, small adjustments to the diet if I am taking in too much sodium, fat, carbs, etc or not enough protein and such.
Activities come next. I have somewhat of a desk job, but always done fairly well without a regular exercise regime. I park in the furthest spot from the building even in the rain/snow and take the stairs 90% of the time (5 floors). Work in Info Tech so I am always getting called to assist folks, but I will often walk to their office if possible instead of working on problems over the phone.
I did do something kind of lame recently though, but no regrets.
I made being more health conscience a new years resolution so I entered a midnight run on new years eve that I read about in the paper that morning. Without any training i managed to complete the 5.5k course in about 33 minutes. I was familiar with the park where the race was held, so I planned to walk the hills to not freak out my body too bad.
Felt OK afterwards and still do to this day, but not starting an exercise program yet until I have plan. Son was an athlete in high school and his weight gear is still at the house (squat rack, incline bench, ab bench, curl bar etc.), but I may end up joining the local Y (about 2 mi from house).
I am a techie, but not sure if I am going to go the wearable route to measure/monitor things. I am open to convincing one way or the other if anyone wants to give it a try.
Will defintely get a scale though - probably one that does body fat calcs. I had to guess at my weight when signing up to this site. I based it on the last time I weighed myself around thanksgiving and how I felt after all the holiday indulgences.
I hope this works. Two childern in college and hoping to be around for a bit longer for all the right reasons...
