Weight is an attitude...?

OK - have never been an OP before - nerve-wracking, but here goes:
Yesterday, I was told by (no less) than 4 separate people that I
"looked good"
"looked hot" (!) (this person even took the trouble of emailing me after we had met, JUST to tell me this)
"looked really trim in those jeans" and
"was glowing"
I'm not the type of person who gets these sorts of comments. Really.
I started to think there was some conspiracy between these people to fool me into a kind of false vanity. That they were teasing.
I weighed myself. Same as last year. I re-took my measurements. Hmm - had lost a bit round the waist, but actually increased a bit around the hips (oops). Then it clicked (and I feel foolish for it having taken so long). That morning, I had worn new jeans, which were much tighter than normal. I hadn't hidden my body away in my usual baggy camouflage. I had decided to wear a nice top and actually took more than the usual 20 seconds to do my hair. I had even put perfume on (somebody had bought me some for Christmas).
I realise that there are some people on this site who have serious amounts of weight to lose and I wouldn't dare patronise them with a pithy "weight is an attitude" maxim. But, for all those, like me, who are in a constant state of "would love to lose a few", I was reminded that during the slog of "dieting" (dreadful concept) to attain the "perfect number", it is important to remember that how we feel often has so little to do with the success of our weight loss regime. We just blame it on that. Recently, I've been enjoying my exercise, I've been eating cleaner, more interesting foods, and have had fun trying new recipes. I had a "good hair" day yesterday. My work is interesting and challenging at the moment. I felt great and people noticed.
But my body was the same one it was last week.
Shamefully, it took other people to notice how good I was LOOKING for me to realise how good I was FEELING.
Don't wait for other people. Regardless of how much you have to lose, if this process gets you down sometimes, remember, there are lots of other reasons to feel better about yourself....find them, enjoy them and have them get you through the tough times.
