lifting for women!

Hey everyone,
I've been on Sparkpeople forever and I just made my profile here. These forums seem to be much better ^^
Anyway! I've lost 21 lbs and I currently have 15 more to go (which is taking quite a bit of time) and I am suddenly very interested in lifting. Since it's taken so long I think my problem is definitely a lack of muscle. I just have no idea where to start and I'm a little bit intimidated. I suppose my main questions would be if I wanted to start dead lifting (for example), how often should I do it? How many reps should I do? How much weight should I increase by? Any help would be much appreciated!

get a book called starting strength by mark rippetoe. there's also a very good program with it that will have you doing compound exercises like deadlifts and squats and bench press.
strong lifts is also another resource. new rules of lifting is another good book; some of the info in there is really good but the routine starts to get really overly complicated
as for deadlift form, when in doubt always trust the master instructor mark rippetoe

I agree with her. I did strong lifts. Very simple and easy to follow and challenging.0

I've been following a lifting thread on here and it's really inspiring seeing the drastic changes with women who lift. I think it sounds like just what I need.0

I'm another fan of the New Rules of Lifting for Women, but I've heard great things about Starting Strength as well - I don't think you can go wrong with either!0
