FitBit Q- Calories Burned?

Maybe someone can help me here, the following are my stats from the last two days using my FitBit . What I'm confused about is the calorie burn- both have very similar calorie burns even tho I took an extra 5000 steps today and I also had 45 "very active minutes" today compared to none yesterday.

Can anyone explain this to me?

YESTERDAYS STATS-

Took 17,260 steps
Had zero "very active minutes"
Burned 2874 calories.

TODAY'S STATS-

Took 22,115 steps
Had 45 very active minutes
Burned 2910 calories

Is today over where you are?

I've seen data like that before and they have some explanation but I don't recall it. I think it was that the calorie count isn't always that correlated to steps or something. Your values are so high, I can kind of see them getting close. 5000 steps is only about 2 miles of walking, which for many of us is only about 100 calories (net).

You have another hour of calorie burn left to add to today's total then. That should put you close to 3000 for the day, or 100 or so over yesterday. Most of what we burn is BMR and non-exercise activity, though a lot of that latter does show up as 'steps'. It is weird when a lower steps day shows a higher burn. I've seen it, too.
