Hi! I'm Bethany, or Buccinator. I'm new the site, just joined yesterday, (and loving it) and new to exercise and eating right. I've always known what to eat and what to do, I've just never had the motivation to do it. But now I do.
I've been sick for three years. None of my doctors could figure out what was wrong until I went to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN a few weeks ago. I have two diseases where my immune system is attacking my joints. This causes exhaustion, fevers, joint pain, nausea, headaches, all sorts of fun stuff. The treatment for diseases like that are drugs that suppress your immune system, so the doctors that finally figured out what's wrong with me at the Mayo Clinic said I should help out my natural immunity by exercising. Also losing weight will help out my joints.
I'm a bit of a "go big or go home" person. I always have been. My first week home from Mayo I tried not eating at all and exercising a ton. Surprisingly that doesn't work. So far this week I've done a lot better. I love the food tracker here at MFP. It helps me keep track of what I'm eating, and my boyfriend knows my log-in information, so he's able to sneak in and make sure I'm not under-eating.
What I'm really struggling with is exercise. Since my body hurts differently every single day some days I'll feel like doing one thing and the next day I won't. Things I've done so far that I like include: 30 minute walks with boyfriend, free dancing to 5 songs of my choice. I've tried out a few exercise videos on Netflix, but haven't found one I really like yet. Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!

Hi Bethany! I'm so glad that you've joined up!
It's a bummer to hear about your health problems but rest assured you'll feel a TON better once you start eating better and exercising!
A few things I like to do (I have terribly bad knees so most regular exercise doesn't work for me)
-yoga ball/exercise ball with light weights
-walking (break up the time if you can't walk for long periods)
-Wii Fit (FUN AND IT WORKS!!!)
-EA Active for Wii (you can pick and choose which exercises you want to do - do what feels ok on any particular day)
Just remember: Don't overdo it AND every little bit helps! 5 - 10 min walks = almost an HOUR of exercise. woohoo!
Good Luck! Feel free to friend me and we can keep each other motivated!0 -
I know alot of people will tell you to do this and that , but I will tell you from what I learned from my
weight loss teacher 4 years ago is find what you like and do it. Me and my husband like to walk, not
much of the other stuff, so we walked alot. I will tell you when we quit walking we gain alot of our
weight back. Now we are walking again and I feel alot better... If you like dancing do it just add more
time as needed.Good luck...0 -
