I had a bone density test recently that said I had osteopenia of the spine. I know walking is good for the hips and legs but does anyone know of exercises to strenghten the back and improve bone density there.
thanks

Resistance training wil increase bone density by actually promoting new bone formation. This means you need to be resisting more than your body weight. While walking may help if you were previously sedentary, it won't promote bone formation if you walk often. You'll have to incorporate weights into your workout program. Exercises that directly load the spine include squats, deadlifts, weighted hyperextensions, and rows. I also suggest meeting with a physical therapist and/or personal trainer since you are at a slightly greater risk of injury. Don't forget your vitamins C and D! :drinker:
